Against Me!, Gym Class Heroes in Inked Magazine

The latest issue of Inked magazine features an interview with Against Me! frontman Tom Gabel and a profile of Gym Class Heroes.

Gabel had this to say about the recent election:

I think what is really important to realize is that it’s not like Barack Obama is president and we win! That’s it! Everyone can go on vacation now and everything is perfect in the world and all of our problems are solved! There are still just as many things wrong, and just as much work needs to be done. Obama was elected, but then Proposition 8 passed in California. His election makes me really optimistic, but I don’t think I’ll have trouble continuing to be critical of things.

You can find the Tom Gabel article here.

Travis McCoy of Gym Class Heroes said this about tattooing:

At first I was like, ‘I’m not going to spend my time in a tattoo shop not getting paid when I could be out chasing girls.’ But I learned a lot from the time I spent there. I was shadowing really good artists and it just sunk in. I did my first tattoo on the guy I was apprenticing under, and during the first couple lines I was shaking. He was like, ‘Suck it up, quit being a pussy!’ He had quit smoking cigarettes, so I drew a cigarette smashing itself out, and it came out dope as fuck. Ever since then I’ve been at it

Rise Against and Rancid to tour (together) this summer

Rise Against has announced that they will soon be touring with Rancid. The band had this to say:

Few things are more exciting than watching Bush finally release America as his eight year hostage, but if anything could rival that news, it’s this: We are more than pleased to announce that we will have the honor of touring the US & Canada with punk rock legends RANCID this summer. If Tim Armstrong didn’t confirm it personally backstage in LA a few weeks ago, we wouldn’t believe it either.

Tour dates have not been announced yet but are expected soon.

Say Anything talk next full length

Say Anything‘s Max Bemis recently spoke to Billboard about their forthcoming, self-titled fulll length. First promised last November, Bemis had this to say about the album:

I think what people like about Say Anything is going to come out even stronger on this record. It’s not like we’re suddenly becoming another band. It’s like we’re embracing who we are to the fullest extent. That’s why it’s self-titled. This is the first record that actual true love is explored on — love for other people, love for the higher power, love for music and love for little things.

The record will follow 2007’s In Defense of the Genre.

Sonic Youth documents recording via Twitter

Sonic Youth have begun documenting their recording process via the ever popular micro-blogging platform, Twitter. The band discussed the album with Billboard saying:

When I started writing, I was immersed in listening to the Wipers,”‘No Way,’ the first song we recorded, has a total Wipers vibe, if the Wipers were a No Wave band. We’re super inspired to make a fresh start. We’re glad to be dealing with a label that loves songs. It’s rock-centric, but still experimental. We’re still Sonic Youth. I still don’t know how to play the guitar.

The band released Rather Ripped in 2006. Since then, they’ve signed to Matador.
