Four founders of Pirate Bay found guilty of promoting copyright infringement

Many of you wrote in with the news that the founders of popular BitTorrent file sharing site, The Pirate Bay, have been found guilty of promoting copyright infringement in Sweden.

The four founders were sentenced to one year in prison apiece and must pay a fine of 30 million SEK ( €2.7 million or $3.5 million.) The four are planning to appeal the verdict which has already led to thousands demonstrating.

Much of the controversy around the site stemmed from the fact that the Pirate Bay did not provide infringing content, but indexed the content from around the world. The impact of the decision could have high reaching decisions for BitTorrent sites, but also for indexes of content like Google. The Telegraph has a detailed piece on the legal implications of the verdict.

Civ announce “Solid Bond: The Complete Discography” compilation

Civ According to a Spinner report, Civ will be releasing a new complete discography box set on May 19, 2009. The melodic hardcore outfit, which formed from members of Gorilla Biscuits, Judge and Youth of Today will be releasing 43-songs over two CDs.

Drummer Sam Siegler told Spinner:

When we originally got together, it was more of a project — a fun way to play music with [singer] Civ, play the hardcore that we grew up with, and also attempt to write some ’60s inspired pop tunes. t was a fun from the start because we really didn’t have any major expectations. We just wanted to do a series of EPs on our friend’s record label, with cool artwork, and things kind of took off from there.

As to whether the band will be playing any shows together:

I think we all agree that it would be a blast to play and support this release, but we’re just trying to gauge what the demand will be.

The band’s 1994 album, Set Your Goals, spawned the hit “Can’t Wait One Minute More.”

Outbreak: “(Work)ing Dead”

Outbreak have posted a new track, “(Work)ing Dead,” The song comes from their band’s forthcoming 7″ single/digital download entitled Work To Death which is set for release on June 9th. The single predates a forthcoming full length.

Vocalist Ryan O’Connor, who also co-owns Think Fast! Records had this to say:

It’s been a couple years since we released anything new, so we’re excited to finally have something for everyone to hear. Basically we’ve been working on a new album, and in the meantime decided to put out a couple of the songs on vinyl. We wanted to get something new out there soon, and rather than wait for the entire process of the album, we figured it would make sense to do something sooner and closer to home.

Check out the song on their myspace page.
