Senator proposes ticket reselling law

Senator Charles E. Schumer has introduced legislation to specifically target ticket scalping as well as ticket resellers like TicketNow. The bill would require a two-day waiting period from when tickets go on sale before a ticket reseller can buy those tickets to put on the secondary market,

The purpose of the bill is to enable fans to get tickets at face value before ticket resellers (like the Ticketmaster-owned TicketsNow) can set up auctions to increase the price of those tickets. The issue was brought to the forefront by Bruce Springsteen and U2 but many bands have seen tickets selling for very significant amounts. When the Mighty Mighty Bosstones reunited in 2007, the band saw tickets for their shows selling for as much as $1250.00.

Thursday’s Geoff Rickly talks United Nations, vinyl-only label

In a recent interview with thepunksite.com, Geoff Rickly of Thursday and United Nations shed some light about his side project and his new label, Collect Records.

Geoff notes that Collect will be vinyl only:

Collect is only going to be vinyl. It’s just vinyl, no CDs, no nothing else. And yeah, we did the United Nations record and now we’re doing the Touche Amore vinyl. We might do this Japanese artist called World’s End Girlfriend who did a collaboration with Mono which was really, really awesome.

He had this to say about the legal problems faced by United Nations:

It is totally annoying. I think the thing is, people just need to calm down and have a sense of humor. I mean, it’s obviously parody. Nobody’s buying our records thinking they’re getting the United Nations. You don’t buy a record and go “Oh, this is like twenty countries” – you know what I mean? “I don’t even need to go to New York anymore to see the building because I have the record!” *laughs* So I just think it’s sort of silly

On top of explanaing the band’s legal tactics in face of numerous lawsuits, he also mentioned that after this current tour they will be going into the studio to record a new seven inch which will be released through Deathwish.
