Hawthorne Heights working on new album

Hawthorne Heights have explained why they are not playing Warped Tour this summer:

We are unable to play Warped Tour this year, because we will be making our new record! We wanted to do it, but we just couldn’t make the timing work.

The group is backing The Swellers to play The Bamboozle though, and are asking you to vote for them for a slot on the festival. You can do that right here.

Pinback signs to Temporary Residence

After several releases via Touch and Go Records, Pinback has signed to Temporary Residence. The band had this to say:

Pinback would like to thank Touch and Go Records for putting out our last 2 releases. We have nothing but good things to say about the label. It’s hard to see them go. The releases that they did over the last 25+ years have been an inspiration to us, and it was an honor to be on the label.

At the same time we are looking forward to starting a new chapter in Pinback’s future with Temporary Residence. We can’t wait and are looking forward to writing a solid new record for them.

The band released Autumn of the Seraphs in 2007.

Gallows produce “e-book” about “Grey Britain”

British hardcore act Gallows have assembled an online book covering their new album, Grey Britain. The elaborate online book includes video and interview pieces as well as plenty of writing about the album and the themes involved:

Welcome to Grey Britain. Welcome to the real Britain: a land of poverty, petty violence, bad diets, bad attitudes. A land of dole queues, decay and dealers; ignorance and Jeremy Kyle DNA tests; of knives and gangs and ASBOs worn as badge of honour. Welcome to Gallows’ new state of the nation address.

Check it out here.

Grey Britain is due out May 5, 2009.

Billie Joe Armstrong talks “21st Century Breakdown,” musical, b-sides

Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day sat down with EW to discuss their forthcoming album and explain some of the ideas that went into it:

It’s interesting because our country-and the world for that matter-is in the worst shape I’ve ever seen it. But there’s this sense of hope that people have. And there’s a lot of confusion. It’s the strangest time. And that’s kind of what 21st Century Breakdown is about.

He also mentioned the live musical:

No “dancing” dancing. I don’t know how to really explain it. It’s got physical and violent moves. It’s not like a Lion King thing. It’s dirty and it’s got a lot of heart and it’s got a street mentality. There are no singing cats. No little girls with big curly red hair. It should be pretty cool, man.

Finally, the interviewer mentions one of the b-sides which was “a mix of British psychedelic-era rockers Marmalade and anarchist-punkers Crass” but which Billie Joe hopes will never be heard.

Check out the interview here.

The Aquabats! leave Nitro

The Aquabats have parted ways with Nitro Records. The band explained:

Due to trying economic times and a struggling musical landscape, the Aquabats have been officially released from Nitro records. While fond memories remain, stark reality faces all of us kids… No record company, no record. That is right kids, although we have been hard at work trying to find the formula for the greatest album ever made….by the Aquabats, we now have no outlet in which to launch such treasured tracks as, ‘The Moon is a Circle of Ghosts’, ‘Funky Doodle Dandy’, or ‘Dance Posse Girl’. Sadly kids, we don’t know what to do. I think its time we all roll up our sleeves and decide to either pack it up and call it quits, OR by some miracle of hard work and perseverance …we … persevere!

The band released Charge!! in 2005 via Nitro.
