Ben Weasel addresses missing Jughead and Screeching Weasel reunion shows

Though many were confused (including Jughead himself) by the omission of longtime member John “Jughead” Pierson from the recent Screeching Weasel reunions, Ben Weasel has finally addressed the issue in a new interview.

Ben commented:

I’m not going to trash John, I’ve known John since I was 12 years old. I don’t know why he chose to take the route that he did; that’s his decision. He certainly has the right if he wants to do that. And if that sets some of the fans against me, so be it.

John went on the Internet and acted like this all happened out of the blue, and it didn’t. So eventually it did get resolved, and John got what is in my opinion a very fair settlement which gives him a cut of merchandise sales in perpetuity. And I’m happy to pay him that money. But in terms of him not being in the band, again, it puts me in a difficult position but suffice to say, it was not an amicable split over the business stuff. And during the dispute, I told him many times that he was jeopardizing his future with whatever might happen with the band down the road, and I begged him not to do that.

Tom DeLonge joins spay-and-neuter program from PETA2

Tom Delonge of Blink 182 and Angels and Airwaves has joined a new PETA2 campaign urging people to have their animals spayed and neutered. The ad was shot by Bree Kristel Clarke and features Delonge with his dogs, Chloe and Grey, with the tagline “Have the Balls to Fix Your Dog.”

He explained why he participated in the campaign:

It just ends up becoming a really sad state when animals are running around that have no families to be a part of. Spaying and neutering the animals keeps the happy animals with happy families and doesn’t create too many lonely ones out there.

Social Distortion / TAT / The Strangers

Social Distortion have announced an additional run of tour dates set to kick off September 18th. The band will be touring with TAT and Strangers for a month or so. The band also recently confirmed plans for a new EP. Frontman Mike Ness noted:

Right after our fall tour, we’re going into the studio. But I’m opting right now to do an EP, just because I don’t want to wait until I have 12 songs. Plus I think it would be cool to go back to the day of the EP. People can get new material and we can tour with new songs. And maybe we can come back in five months and do another one, and then put it all together with a bonus track later for the people who actually want to still buy a CD. I think that’s the way to roll with the times and keep it kind of old-school.
