Daryl Palumbo promises “far more aggressive” Glassjaw EP; LP on the way

Glassjaw In an interview with Revolt, Glassjaw frontman Daryl Palumbo dropped some hints about the sonic direction of the band’s long-awaited and recently completed EP, as well as plans for an eventual full-length:

“It’s a five or six song EP” … “And the EP will be slightly different from the full-length. The new Glassjaw stuff is far more aggressive than it was previously. This is stuff that Justin (Beck) and I have been working on for a long time. It’s far more aggressive than I ever thought it would be”

When released, the EP will be the band’s first new material since 2002’s Worship and Tribute. Check out the entire interview here.

Drag The River to record new album this fall

Drag the River In a recent interview with AltOhio, Jon Snodgrass mentioned that he and bandmate Chad Price will be recording a new Drag the River album in November and that at least some of it will be recorded in Austin, TX:

“I’ve been talking to Price, from Drag the River, and we’re talking about what to do next November in Austin. I’m thinking about going down a few days early, and just figuring out a little my part in what we’ll end up doing. So, we’re going to do another Drag the River record. I’ve got some songs written that definitely have to be for Drag the River, if I put them on a record of mine, people will just say that they sound like they should be on a Drag the River record. We’ve worked on a couple of ideas together already, which we’ve done in the past for sure; we definitely come in with almost complete songs and then try to help each other out. This time I think we might write more together. Don’t know though.”

Drag The River’s last proper full-length was 2008’s You Can’t Live This Way, while a rarities collection entitled Bad at Breaking Up was released earlier this year. Snodgrass has kept busy in the meantime, releasing his first solo record Visitor’s Band earlier this year, and a split LP with Cory Branan via Suburban Home Records.

The Raveonettes announce title, release date

The Raveonettes have announced their next full length. The record is titled In and Out of Control and is due out October 6, 2009 via Vice Records.

Vocalist Sharin Foo spoke to Billboard about the record:

What strikes me is that more so than ever before the mood of the music and the subject of the lyrics are in extreme conflict with one another. Our past records have tended to sound like different perspectives of one controlling emotion, both sonically and thematically, almost like a drone. But this record is very much a collection of songs which each has their own individual emotion, energy and personality.

The record follows Lust Lust Lust from 2008.

Weezer 8-bit tribute album released

A group of video game music artists have gotten together and released a Weezer tribute album. The release features 8-bit interpretations of some of the band’s biggest hits, such as “Buddy Holly” and “The World Has Turned And Left Me Here”, as well as some of their rarer or unreleased tracks. The 14-track compilation is available to download for free at video game music netlabel Pterodactyl Squad,

“Do you remember that dream you had, where the sound chips from the beloved games consoles of your youth all got together and formed a Weezer tribute band? Yeah? No? OK. That dream is about to come true whether you had it or not.

The songs on this compilation have mostly been created using original videogame hardware running home-brew software, and vary radically in style, from minimal ‘one man and his Game Boy’ compositions to 8-bit inspired full band performances. Pterodactyl Squad proudly presents the music of Weezer as you have never heard it before.”

Check it out here.
