Our old drummer decided to leave the band in the very middle of writing Fluent in Stroll. We were demoing songs and rehearsing five days a week and he just decided it wasn’t for him anymore.
Pittsburg’s Anti-Flag are to team up with Austrian political punx Rentokill to release a split 7″ to benefit the International Emmaus Project – a decentralised organisation “working with and for the poorest in society, to fight against the causes of exclusion in a wide variety of different economic and political contexts”
The 7″, which will be released by SideOneDummy, will be strictly limited to 300 copies and will only be available at all European Anti-Flag shows during the summer of 2009. Other acts to feature on the 7″ are the German bands Emily, and Clint respectively.
It was recently announced that Los Angeles-based Wax would be reuniting for Riot Fest 2009 in Chicago. Some further details on the reunion, and some of the band’s plans have been unveiled. WAX released their debut album, What Else Can We Do in 1992 on Caroline Records. The album was recorded in two weeks by Ramones/White Zombie producer Daniel Rey. In 1995, WAX followed up with 13 Unlucky Numbers in 1995 which featured the famous “guy on fire” video by Spike Jonze for the song “California” which MTV banned from daytime airplay.
The band recently got together and decided to release a vinyl 7-inch featuring four unreleased WAX songs that were originally intended for 13 Unlucky Numbers. All proceeds from this 7-inch will be donated to UCP Wheels For Humanity, and will be released on Side One Dummy in August 2009.
Rivers Cuomo of Weezer fame was also a Wax fan, noting:
One point of real pain in Weezer’s collective psyche in 1992 was our jealousy of Wax. Not only had these friends and former equals (at the bottom of the social ladder) actually made it (in the sense of getting a record deal) but we actually LOVED their music, we worshipped their music. It was so catchy, so ridiculously hook-laden. Every part of every Wax song was as fun and heart-stirring as the last, and each part lasted only as long as it was fresh and then was replaced by the next.
We were so jealous. Our songs seemed plodding, dull, and boring in comparison. No wonder people loved them and hated us, we thought. We beat ourselves up as we were flyering, imagining that what the random strangers walking in and out of the clubs really wanted was news about Wax. As we passed out a flyer, we would say to the people, ‘Hey, come to the show … Wax is going to be there.’ We didn’t even say that Wax was going to perform. We just said that they were going to be there. Sometimes we just said ‘someone from Wax is going to be there’ or even ‘someone from Wax might be there.’ And we were astonished, dismayed, and delighted (at our own lameness and Wax’s awesomeness) when someone would actually respond, very interested and excited, ‘Wax is going to be there?
Atlanta, GA’s The Wild have released their self-titled debut EP on Quote Unquote Records for a donation-optional download. The label had this to say about the ‘signing’:
“The Wild are a lot of things. They are a long sunny drive on an empty interstate. They’re a hot summer night, drinking beers and barbecuing on your porch. With its jangly guitars and rolling narratives, The Wild’s debut EP is perfect for those warmer months of the year. And not only is the music awesome, but The Wild also help run The Wonderroot, which is a community center in Atlanta that provides a low-cost/free recording studio, darkroom, computer lab, library, conference room for the local kids as well as an all-ages show space for tons of bands passing through, something Atlanta hasn’t had in a while. Fucking inspiriing!”
The Sound of Animals Fighting have posted the new video from their 2008 album, The Ocean and the Sun. The video was created and animated by Eric Stodolnik using acclaimed Russian painter Vasily Kafanov’s work to bring the song to life.
Rise Against have posted a short video clip. Frontman Tim McIlrath explained:
Last time we were in Detroit with the Alkaline Trio we hooked up with a soup kitchen and helped prepare and serve meals to members of the local community. We put together a video of the experience spliced with footage of Joe on the set of the Audience Of One video.
