Members of Light This City form Heartsounds

Two members of Prosthetic Records metal act Light This City have announced the formation of Heartsounds. The band is influenced by punk acts like Strung Out and Hot Water Music and features Ben Murray and Laura Nichol from Light This City. The band’s debut record is titled Until We Surrender and is due out August 25, 2009

Riot Fest adds Rights of The Accused, Wax, Aggrolites, Street Dogs

Riot Fest has announced the third wave of bands for the 2009 edition of the Chicago Festival. The new additions include Rights of The Accused, Wax, The Aggrolites and Street Dogs.

They join a lineup which includes Screeching Weasel, Naked Raygun, Dead Milkmen, Buttthole Surfers NOFX, Alkaline Trio, Murder City Devils,The Dead Milkmen & Cock Sparrer, 88 Fingers Louie, Riverboat Gamblers, Pegboy, No Empathy, Youth Brigade, Teenage Bottlerocket, Lower Class Brats, Teen Idols, Off With Their Heads, The Arrivals, Shot Baker, Flatfoot 56, Fear City, The Frankl Project and Anxiety High.

Blink 182 in new “augmented reality” campaign for Doritos

Blink 182 are participating in a pretty unique new marketing campaign with Doritos, reports Wired Magazine. According to the article, a special symbol printed on limited-edition packages of Doritos Late Night chips, will serve as a ticket. To unlock the video, you visit the Doritos Late Night website, put the symbol in front of your webcam and watch as a stage pops up from the chip bag.

Similar augmented reality campaigns were used to promote Transformers and Star Trek. You can find more details on the tech here.

MxPx celebrate 17th Anniversary with online performance, fan-selected set list

To celebrate their 17th anniversary together, pop-punk act MxPx has announced plans for a online broadcasted show via Stickam.com. The band is promising a fan-selected set list and Q&A throughout the set.

The event will begin broadcasting Wednesday, July 8 at 5:30 pm PST/8:30 pm EST, with the live set kicking off at 6 pm PST/9 pm EST via this page.

Strike Anywhere / Crime in Stereo / Polar Bear Club / Ruiner

Strike AnywhereStrike Anywhere will head out on the road in the fall on a label package tour with Crime in Stereo, Polar Bear Club and Ruiner.

All four Bridge Nine bands will be supporting new albums: Strike Anywhere’s Iron Front is due out October 6; Crime in Stereo’s as-yet-untitled album is slated for a fall release; Polar Bear Club’s Chasing Hamburg is out September 8; and Ruiner’s Hell Is Empty is expected September 22.

The Ghost to play three reunion shows

The GhostBerkeley/Chicago post-hardcore/punk act the Ghost will be reuniting for a trio of shows. The lineup of Brian Moss, Randall Bleichner (Short Round, Wolf & Cub), Jordan Schalich (Whale|Horse), Paul Lask and possibly original guitarist Shane Stevens will be playing San Francisco, their hometown of Chicago, and at The Fest 8 in Gainesville.

The band will be celebrating the vinyl re-release of their debut full-length, This Is a Hospital, on Solidarity Records. Their other full-length, This Pen Is a Weapon, will also be re-released on vinyl by the label in 2010.

The band originally broke up in 2005 after releasing those two aforementioned albums on Some Records: Hospital in 2002 and Weapon in 2004. Frontman Moss went on to appear in projects such as Hanalei and Olehole.

Shellshag sign to Don Giovanni

Don Giovanni Records have announced the signing of Brooklyn’s Shellshag. The band will be recording a new album owards the end of the year for a February 2010 release date. The album is a followup to their self-released album Destroy Me, I’m Yours. The band will be hitting the road with Screaming Females this August.
