Vocalist Jim Lindberg leaves Pennywise

Pennywise frontman Jim Lindberg has announced his departure from the long-running punk act.

Lindberg released the following statement:

After 20 years, nine albums and thousands of shows around the world, my time in Pennywise has come to an end. Being the singer for this band has been an amazing experience, and along the way we made some of the best fans anyone could ask for. There are few things that made me more proud than seeing people at our shows singing our songs, and it’s your support and encouragement that’s kept me going this long. would sincerely like to thank everyone who helped us along the way and wish everyone in the Pennywise family the best of luck and continued success. Yours truly, Jim.”

Lindberg had been the band’s lead vocalist and major songwriting contributor since their inception in 1988, recording and releasing nine studio albums with the band. The most recent was last year’s free release on MySpace Records, Reason to Believe.

Lindberg is currently working on a documentary based on his book Punk Rock Dad, and is set to begin recording for an as-yet-untitled release.

No word on who will take Lindberg’s place.

Allen Shellenberger of Lit (1970-2009)

Allen Shellenberger, founding member and longtime drummer of Lit has passed away after a lengthy battle with brain cancer. In 2008, Allen was diagnosed with a malignant glioma brain tumor and immediately underwent clinical trials, chemotherapy and radiation at the Cedars-Sinai Maxine Dunitz Neurosurgical Institute. His treatments were documented in an “ABC World News Tonight” piece that aired in May of that year. His bandmates had this to say:

To know Al was to know laughter. He had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone. Words cannot begin to express how much he will be missed. This was our brother and not a day will go by that we won’t think about him. Right now we’re trying to find the balance of mourning his loss and celebrating his life. Allen has experienced more in his 39 years than most people dream of in 10 lifetimes. This is a tremendous loss for us, our fans and also for Allen’s family who took such good care of him during his battle with cancer

Our deepest condolences to his friends and family.
