The Swellers accidentally split a release with Metallica

The Swellers have accidentally appeared on a split release with Metallica. As drummer/vocalist Jonathan Diener explains in his blog:

Today we received our test pressings from Paper & Plastick for our new 7″ with the songs “Welcome Back Riders” and “Montreal Screwjob”…

Side A was awesome, the song sounded great. Then we flipped it, put the needle on, then heard applause… we didn’t have that on our song. Then we hear “I am iron man” …what the fuck?

We then realized, it was Metallica covering the song “Iron Man” by Black Sabbath on both copies of the 7″ instead of our song “Montreal Screwjob”. We even looked at the etching on the vinyl, one side said the swellers, other had a release listing with MET00 then the number of the release.

The band has two test press copies of the illustriously erroneous 7″ (which they are “definitely keeping”), both of which bear a live version of Metallica covering Black Sabbath’s “Iron Man” at their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. The band also speculates that, of course, there may be a test pressing Metallica received with a Swellers song on one side.

The Swellers’ own 7″ in question, Welcome Back Riders, was recently released by Fueled by Ramen / Paper + Plastick. Their FBR debut, Ups and Downsizing, is due out September 29.

Fat Mike Interview at Pokernews.com

Poker News recently spoke to Fat Mike of NOFX about the famous poker games that take place at the Warped Tour. Mike explained:

This year there is nobody, in any of the bands, who is good. There are some good players, but they’re just people who work on the Warped Tour. Matt (M. Shadows) from Avenged Sevenfold is good and so is Davey Havok from AFI. Then you always have Fletcher (Dragge) from Pennywise. He lost $13,000 on our last game in 2006. He lost money to Kevin (Lyman, founder of Warped Tour), Nick (Hexum) from 311, me, and Davey Havok. Since it was the last game, that night had a $1,000 buy-in. I was the bank so I kept giving him markers. At the end of the night I went to his manager and told him Fletcher owed me $13,000. He didn’t even think twice, just opened a box and handed me the money

Young Widows detail future projects

Richmond,VA’s Young Widows announced some upcoming projects, including a live record and writing for their follow up to 2008’s Old Wounds.

We’ve been quite busy writing for our follow up to Old Wounds. So far so good! We are stoked on all the songs we’ve been writing and we’ll be debuting some of them on our upcoming tours….

We have two releases to announce, both on Robotic Empire and both to be released in the next couple of months. The first is Evan [Patterson]’s project Bad Secrets, which was born out of improv jam sessions between him and The Kodan Armada‘s Dan Davis. They recorded three weekends of jamming together, whittled it down to seven songs and thus, their debut release is born. It will be release on 9″+CD! The second is a Young Widows live record! Ha. We had the privilage to play live on WMUC Radio back in April and it was all recorded. Andy was insistant on releasing it, probably why he stole our copy of the recording! It will be released on 12″+CD of a limited number.

The band will be performing at Best Friends Day 8 in Richmond with Dave Witte (Burnt By The Sun, Municipal Waste, Melt Banana) filling in for drummer Jeremy McMonigle at the show (he’ll be in Finland). The band is also supporting Thursday and The Fall Of Troy this Fall as previously announced.
