Gaslight Anthem have been named “Best International Newcomer” at the 2009 Kerrang! Awards. The band was named winner at an event held in central London on Monday night. The awards show was hosted by Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor and Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian.
Red Collar has announced a special vinyl release of their debut full-length, Pilgrim. The pressing will be limited to 500 hand-numbered copies, with a reworked track listing to give the album a better Side A / Side B feel. The band also notes that due to space constraints the album’s 11 tracks won’t all fit on the LP, and that they’ll be offering a download card featuring all tracks and a bonus cover song with each purchase.
Soon-to-be-defunct Brooklyn indie rockers Nakatomi Plaza will be premiering two new tracks tonight on Generic Insight Radio. The songs are off the band’s upcoming final full-length, Ghosts.

A couple of weeks ago Punknews announcedFood Not Songs, a cook book being published by us and Suburban Home Records. In the months leading up to the book Punknews will be publishing weekly recipes, many of which will be available in the print edition.
Our first dish comes courtesy of Brett Adams, vocalist/guitarist for The Riot Before, who most recently released Fists Buried in Pockets in 2008. Brett may receive mail in Richmond, Virginia, but he grew up in California and as such is an expert in burritos. He’s offered us his personal recipe for Carnitas Burritos with Roasted Pablano and Tomatillo Salsa.
With three full lengths, two Splits, an EP, a demo and countless tours under their belts Shook Ones have proven that they are not easily shaken from the radar. Bill Leary exchanged e-mails with vocalist, Scott Freeman, discussing a nasty case of pneumonia, a ballyhoo of records, and of course their newest release The Unquotable A.M.H. out on Paper + Plastick Records.
Bouncing Souls have posted a new video from their track, “Airport Security.” Yes, the band already made a video for the song, but this version was assembled by a family of fans and made entirely of animated LEGO bricks by Brian, Theresa, Brian and Andrew Westervelt.
The creators explained:
When we saw the “Airport Security” video, with the cardboard sets and props, it just seemed natural to turn it into a Lego animation. Theresa constructed all the sets and props while Andrew and Brian, ages 12 and 13, did the bulk of the animating and Brian Sr. was the director/dictator and editor.
The whole project took two months and more hours than we are willing to admit to. We had all hoped that the Souls would see it but we never expected any feedback. Imagine our surprise when Kate contacted us and wanted to put it on the Souls web site!
We go to as many Souls shows as we can, which is about every 3 or 4 months. Their music truly speaks to us and we hope this video can express our gratitude.
Sound Study Recordings recently put out the vinyl for City of Ships new album, Look What God Did To Us. We’ve got a test press and maroon haze vinyl copy to give away.
Whitney and Votolato will enter the studio on August 7th with a familiar face behind the boards. John Goodmanson, who worked with the duo on the final two Blood Brothers records, Crimes and Young Machetes. The band posted an update to their Twitter about the signing:
Since last winter we’ve poured our hearts, blood, sweat, guts, grit and tears into writing this album. and Fat Possum gets us probably more than anyone has ever before. John (Goodmanson) knows us inside and out, and this record needed to be made with someone we trust. It means too much for us to just bring in any old producer.
