Spike Slawson (Re-Volts)

Getting in touch with the Re-Volts’ frontman Spike Slawson wasn’t easy. It’s not surprising when you take into account that the guy has three other bands besides the Re-Volts to keep tabs on — Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, Swingin’ Utters and Filthy Thieving Bastards. When Punknews’ Zack Zeigler finally did catch up with Spike, he was in Winnipeg, Canada passing out flyers to promote a string of shows. Despite stopping periodically to flag down a passerby for directions, or to let them know when and where to catch the next Re-Volts performance, Slawson discussed his stance on the “retarded” unwritten rules of punk, how hitting the road adds stability to his life and why musically he’s not ready to admit to being happy.

New York Times reviews Souls, Lifetime show

The Gray Lady has posted a review of the Bouncing Souls recent anniversary performance at Webster Hall last Thursday night. The newspaper talked about some notable moments in the evening including:

During “Lean on Sheena,” one of the Bouncing Souls’ more agitated numbers, a few muscular young men toward the back of the crowd hoisted one of their friends, upright in his wheelchair, and thrust him forward. He rode the crowd, dozens of hands reaching upward to grip the tires, until he was deposited onstage, prompting the band’s bass player, Bryan Kienlen, to exult, “That’s Jersey right there for you!”

The article also talks about Lifetime‘s performance and more. Check it out here.

Last night’s show with Lifetime and Tim Barry was documented on the Punknews Twitter, check out the pictures.

Fenix Tx to release new album in 2010

Long dormant San Diego pop punk band Fenix TX is set to hit the studio soon. In an announcement posted online earlier this month, the band revealed that their original line up of Donnie Reyes, Adam Lewis, Will Salazar and Damon DeLaPaz would hit the studio this September. A new full length is expected in 2010.

Fenix TX formed in 1995 in Houston as Riverfenix. The band’s 1997 Drive Thru released debut caught the attention of Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus, who managed the band up through the release of Blink’s breakthrough Enema of the State. The bands continued to tour together and share management, exposing the band to much of Blink’s then burgeoning audience and landing them at MCA. The group split up due to personal differences in 2002, although several reunions have taken place since.
