Castevet (NY) set to record

Metal act Castevet (not to be confused with the emo/punk/post-rockers of the same name) will enter the PAINcave studio early next month to record their debut album. The session will be engineered by Behold… The Arctopus’s Colin Marston (Genghis Tron, Jarboe, Capillary Action).

The recording will feature a guest appearance by instrumentalist/composer Tim Byrnes and act as the debut for bassist J. Scott (Defeatist, Anodyne).

The album is slated for a 2010 release, following on their recent 7″ on Paragon, Stones/Salts.

The band will play the “Show No Mercy” show — whether that entails a set of Slayer or Cro-Mags covers or just a general theme, the Org is unsure — at Brooklyn’s Public Assembly on September 6 with Gnaw and Mick Barr.

Have Heart announce final show with Bane, Shipwreck a.d.

Have HeartHave Heart have unveiled some information on their final show. The band will play on October 17 in Boston, MA alongside Bane, Shipwreck A.D., Step Forward, Waste Management, Foundation and No Tolerance.

While the show will take place on National Edge Day, frontman Pat Flynn stresses that “this is NOT an ‘edge fest’ of straight edge bands, but just a show on Edge Day of edge and non-edge bands.” The actual venue has yet to be determined, however.

The show will also be acting as a benefit, with all proceeds going to the New Bedford Womens’ Shelter.

Flynn also accidentally leaked information on a second-to-last show in the works, which would take place at Anchors Up in Haverhill, MA on October 16 with Trapped Under Ice, Cruel Hand, Soul Control, the Rival Mob, Outrage, Maintain and Free Spirit. The lineup has not been 100% confirmed, however.

Have Heart decided to call it quits earlier this year. According to a recent lengthy interview with Flynn, the band is planning one final 7″ recording.

Sainthood Reps / The Republic of Wolves

Brian: With anticipation for Brand New‘s Daisy continuing to mount (and the release date exactly a month away), I thought today to be appropriate to showcase a couple related projects I’ve been feeling recently.

One is Long Island duo Sainthood Reps, who just recently debuted some material on their MySpace page. One of the two guys is Derrick Sherman, who acts as third guitarist for Brand New on most tours. If you’re into this style of delicately atmospheric and progressive yet rather heady indie rock (sprouting up thanks to fellow acts like Robbers and Prawn), check them out. It’s fairly pensive and earnest sounding stuff and seems to have a ton of potential.

The other is another Long Island act, the Republic of Wolves, a new side project of indie-folk pair Tigers on Trains (I think these dudes like animals). Without telling TROW, a friend of the band recently leaked snippets of their demos onto YouTube claiming they were Daisy demos. I don’t think the band was too pleased with the stunt, but it certainly fooled a lot of people and garnered them a ton of publicity in the process. So, yeah, they sure sound quite a bit like Brand New, but I’d say their style mostly leans close to those leaked batch of demos from early 2006. There are some moments of brilliant restraint in their songs and I’d love to see where they can take this. Check them out on their MySpace.

Pennywise looking for new singer in wake of Jim Lindberg’s departure

Pennywise members Fletcher Dragge, Byron McMackin and Randy Bradbury have responded to the departure of vocalist Jim Lindberg that was announced earlier today. The trio commented:

After 19 years with Pennywise, Jim Lindberg has decided to step down as lead singer. Pennywise has long stood behind the motto that you should always follow your heart and pursue what makes you happy, and we wish Jim the best of luck in his new ventures, whatever they may be. Pennywise has become a way of life for a lot of people, and has definitely become a way of life for us. As the three remaining members of Pennywise we feel that we are not done delivering our message to our fans.

The band has always been about moving forward in life no matter what obstacles stand in front of you. We will begin our search for a new singer immediately. We will continue to tour the world and we are looking forward to writing new music. We’ve had a lot of good times and survived the hard times thanks to the undying support of our fans. We’re looking forward to what the future may bring.
