Green Day to release 7-inch box set

Green Day has announced a new box set to compile their many 7-inch singles. The $150 set will include 42 songs pressed on 21 vinyl singles limited to 2500 copies.

The set reaches as far back as the band’s early Lookout! Records material including “Going to Pasalacqua” and ends with “Know Your Enemy” and “21 Guns.” Interestingly, the set also includes singles written by the band’s two alter egos, The Network and Foxboro Hot Tubs.

More Fest 8 confirmations

The folks behind The Fest 8 have announced another batch of confirmed bands for this year’s Halloween weekend shenanigans in Gainesville, FL.

Newly confirmed acts include Sakes Alive!!, We Are the Union, Defeater, Hostage Life, Fallen From The Sky, One Win Choice, Anchor Down, Make Do and Mend, American Armada, After the Fall, Captain We’re Sinking, L’antietam, Prolly, Dig It Up, Turkish Techno, Gnarly By Nature, P.S. Eliot, Sharks Come Cruisin’, FATAL, American War, Dude Jams, Get Laid, Safety, House Boat, Bent Left, Consular, Colossus, and A City Safe From Sea.

This year’s Fest-ivities will be happening October 30-November 1 and will be headlined by the likes of Snuff, 7 Seconds, Less Than Jake, Youth Brigade, Dillinger Four and Samiam, among many, many others.

Beastie Boys reissue “Hello Nasty”

The Beastie Boys have unveiled the reissue of their 1998 album, Hello Nasty, as with their previous albums, the record is remastered and features 21 bonus tracks and rarities, including 10 never before released items (tracks/skits). The digital release is available now and a physical release will follow on September 22, 2009.

The album won Grammys, see the band presented with an MTV Video Vanguard lifetime achievement award, and ultimately sell some 7 million copies worldwide. Hello Nasty will be available in a variety of configurations, ranging from a digital download of the original album and b-sides to a 43-track 2-CD set, to a limited edition deluxe package of four 180-gram vinyl LPs featuring the deluxe remastered album, 21 bonus tracks and rarities, and Hello Nasty Collectors Edition PATCH in an 8-panel gatefold package enclosed in a hardcover “coffee table book” case. The deluxe vinyl version will be strictly limited to 1500 pieces.

Channel 3 to release 1981 Demos on limited LP

Plans have been unveiled for a new release from early SoCal punk outfit, Channel Tree. TKO Records will compile the band’s original 1981 demos are collected on a limited 13-track LP. These are the recordings that gained the band the attention of Posh Boy Records’ Robbie Fields. Included are songs that became CH3 classics, previously unreleased tracks, and a Who cover.

The release is limited to 1,000 copies on purple & white vinyl. Includes CD version.

Brian Cogan (The Encyclopedia of Punk)

Last year saw the release of The Encyclopedia of Punk by Punknews.org’s own, Brian Cogan. The book serves as a punk primer, while exploring obscure nooks within the genre. It highlights punk trends and features write-ups on literately hundreds of punk-related bands, and also showcases countless extremely rare and never-been-seen photos of all things punk. The book is an extremely interesting read and should hold court on every punker’s beat up, sticker-covered coffee table. Michael Dauphin recently caught up with Cogan to discuss the book and the preparation that went into it.
