The Damned cancel US tour

The The Damned have been forced to cancel their US tour with Danko Jones. The veteran punk band commented:

Due to circumstances beyond our control, THE DAMNED regret to announce the cancellation of all of their October / Halloween U.S tour dates. As of today, the band’s U.S. Visas were still not approved, thus forcing the immediate cancellation of the entire tour. We are devastated to be disappointing our fans in the U.S. who wished to see us on this tour, and sympathize with all those who have made travel arrangements and other commitments.

The band last released So, Who’s Paranoid? in 2008.

80s BC punk act House Of Commons reissued by Artcore fanzine

House of Commons Material from 80s Victoria, BC based punk act House of Commons has been collected and re-released via the long running UK based Artcore Fanzine. The latest issue of the zine is packaged with the band’s Guilty As Hell collection, a 14 song CD comprised of 1983’s 7 song Patriot mini-LP, their 5 song self-titled debut and two demos. All material has been remastered for the release. A 20 minute documentary is included on the enhanced portion of the disc, featuring two videos and seven live songs along with TV news footage of the band. Artcore says “House of Commons took the classic Vancouver guitar sound, as pioneered by bands like the Subhumans, threw in some Youth Brigade, Toxic Reasons and the darker edge of bands like Born Without a Face to create their own unique hardcore sound.”

Artcore has been around since 1986 and is published roughly once a year. Details on the 26th issue, which features the House Of Commons reissue, can be found at their website.

Dustin Kensrue (Thrice)

ThriceWhen a relatively unknown Orange County band released its debut album, Identity Crisis, almost 10 years ago, there were definite glimmers of hope in their pounding pop-rock sound, but nothing that would hint at the brilliance of what was to come. With every memorable album and every live show that would leave you buzzing for days after, Thrice has continued to be the epitome of how artists should evolve – by doing everything on their own terms and by not scrambling to please the online masses of demanding, nostalgia junkies. Whether it was screamed or whispered, each one of Thrice’s albums was an honest expression of who the band was at that time. Their new album, Beggars, is no exception. This amazing groove-infused record is a true display of what these four guys are capable of. While their past CDs may have been expressions of the band during a different time, Beggars is an unapologetic declaration of who Thrice is now.

Lead singer and scholar Dustin Kensrue took some time out of a hectic schedule to talk to Gen Handley from Punknews about what his reaction was to Beggars being leaked three months early, where the best place to eat in Orange County is, and why all the world is mad.

Fucked Up to compile singles in new collection

Toronto’s celebrated hardcore outfit Fucked Up will be releasing a new collection of singles in January. Due out January 26, 2010, the album is titled Couple Tracks: Singles 2002-2008 and will accordingly press much of the band’s rare and hard-to-find material on a single double CD release.

The album is the second singles collection from the band (2004’s Epics in Minutes is the first) but even then it leaves out some of the band’s singles output.

Check out a track listing and track-by-track explanation here.

EVR explains This Time is Next Year donation-based release

Our friends at Pastepunk contacted Equal Vision Records to ask them why their recent signing, This Time Next Year, was pursuing a donation-based approach to selling their new album.

EVR’s Dan Sandshaw explained the plan to Pastepunk:

Our main goal is to get people to listen to our bands. There is no growth without listeners. The current state of the physical CD retail business has left us with few options to develop our artists. The TTNY record is fantastic and people need to hear it. We want as many people to hear it as possible, even if it’s for free.

We came up with it on the label side and the band completely embraced the idea. We will keep working to develop the band with as many new ideas as possible. I’m happy that at least we tried a new approach to get new listeners.

The band commented:

We are playing with Sacrifice, Striker, and Evil Survives. One night only! This show is going to be amazing! We have basically dreamed of this chance to play with SACRIFICE for over 20 years. To benefit some great local organizations, and so we do not sully our evening of thrashing with the stink of money, we will be donating our portion of the shows proceeds to : Canada Haiti Action Network, Sage House, Sisters in Spirit.
