The Swellers

The SwellersDetroit, Michigan has endured a tumultuous year thus far. The city’s calling card automotive industry has been suffering a downright crisis and is still attempting to bounce back to some sense of normalcy. Compound that with the Red Wings losing in the Stanley Cup playoffs, the Tigers not making the playoffs, and things have been looking pretty grim. However, a glimmer of hope does shine from the Motor City this year, with Fenton based pop-punk act The Swellers releasing their new full length album, Ups and Downsizing. Punknews contributor Matt Pagirsky recently had an e-mail exchange with brothers Jonathan and Nick Diener about the new album, their recent signing to Fueled by Ramen, as well as their upcoming appearance at the Fest 8, and their national run with Paramore.

Killing Floor

  • Optimized game content to reduce memory usage and improve loading times
  • Fixed acheivements that weren’t working, 3 Map Achievements for KF-Bedlam, Dot of Doom, and Mr. Perky. Mr. Perky was appearing as though it had been reset(it was working behind the scenes, but the menu functionality was not working)
  • Fixed an exploit related to weapon dropping/selling in the Perks system(that people used heavily with the Medic Gun). This exploit could be used to buy a weapon on a discount and give it to someone else that would sell the weapon for a huge profit

Juice Box Recording Co. offers free Can-con Fest sampler

Toronto’s Juice Box Recording Co. has put together a free compilation of Canadian bands playing at this year’s Fest in Gainesville. Juicebox’s Sam Sutherland says,

In the past, Canadian representation at the Fest has been minimal. Like, one band a year kind of minimal. This year, there are seven bands from the Great White North trekking down to Gainesville. And we are stoked. To celebrate this radness, we’ve put together a free compilation of all but one of the Canadian bands playing Fest 8.

You can download the compilation featuring Living With Lions, Junior Battles, Hostage Life, Vicious Cycle, Dig It Up, and Carpenter here.

Chuck Biscuits (1965-2009)

Prolific punk drummer Chuck Biscuits died Saturday after a lengthy struggle with throat cancer. He was 44.

Chuck was born Charles Montgomery in British Columbia, Canada, performing with hardcore pioneers D.O.A. before relocating to California in 1982 and joining Black Flag. Those early days in California saw him perform with a number of legendary bands, including the Circle Jerks, Fear, and the Weirdos.

Biscuits later made his name playing for Danzig. From 1988 he performed as part of that band for their first four albums. He later appeared on their 1993 Thrall: Demonsweatlive EP which yielded the hit “Mother.” The drummer performed with a number of acts from punk to hip hop, logging time with everyone from Samhain and Social Distortion to Run D.M.C.

Our deepest condolences go out to Chuck’s family and friends.
