Jawbox frontman J. Robbins recently addressed rumours that the band would be reuniting for more shows beyond their appearance on Jimmy Fallon. The performance is set to coincide with the re-issue of the band’s album For Your Own Special Sweetheart [Reissue] on November 24, 2009.
Robbins said this:
It seems like if we were ever going to do it – now would be the time. We all put our heads together, and it just seemed like – with all of us in different cities and leading complicated and over-committed lives as we do – that it would be very, very difficult for us to to dedicate the time it would take for us to live up to the standards that we want to live up to.
If we were going to do shows, we would not want it to be half-assed. There were good and bad things about Jawbox, but we always held ourselves to a pretty high standard as far as playing shows. We would want to make sure we did it right, and we felt like we couldn’t take the time to do that. So that was pretty much the beginning and the end of the reunion discussion.

Vocalist Nick Barham has left Columbus, Ohio’s Attack Attack!. The Rise Records act released the following statement:
Thought we’d throw you all a quick little update about what’s currently going on in the AA! lineup. The band and Nick parted ways recently in a mutually agreed non-explosive fashion, which we all believe is the best for both sides. Caleb is going to retire his keys and start screaming in the front of the band. We DO NOT have a new person in our band. Don’t worry, our music will still be full of Caleb’s programming, keys, and all the good things he concocts. It will just be back-tracked live with the 808 samples and other nonsense on my iPod. Anyways, we’re not gonna stop touring, playing shows, and having a generally wonderful time with all of you.
Of course, this Attack! Attack! is not to be confused with South Whales’ Attack! Attack!. When saying the latter’s name you’re supposed to shout between each word, while the Ohio act only requires an increase in volume after the second word. That’s hardly confusing. Mastodon recently spoke to Paste Magazine about their work scoring the upcoming film, Jonah Hex. The film is based on the Western/Sci-Fi comic book of the same name and features Josh Brolin, John Malkovich and Megan Fox.
They explained how it happened:
Just before crossing back over the Atlantic, Mastodon received a phone call from an enthusiastic fan. It was director Jimmy Hayward, who said he’d been inspired by repeated listenings of Mastodon’s 2008 epic, Blood Mountain, and that said inspiration had helped him finish up a little project he was toiling over-the script for Jonah Hex. The album weighed heavily on Hayward, Sanders said, and so he wanted Mastodon to weigh heavily on his movie. “As opposed to labels profiteering the situation, saying they’d give a band $500,000 to use some song, he called us out of the blue as a fan,” Sanders recalled. “It was the most beautiful, authentic way to collaborate.”
