Dinosaur Jr. recently dropped by Yo Gabba Gabba to record a performance of “Banana,” which is, as you might expect, an ode to the banana. The track was previously performed on the show by Hellcat Records artist The Aggrolites.
In a follow up to their earlier promise, Apple has opened up the specification for the “iTunes LP” format for anyone to roll their own enhanced albums. The LPs are enhanced digital albums sold in the company’s iTunes store. They are built with standard web technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and can contain graphics and video in addition to the music. Given the technologies involved, an experienced web developer should have the skill set to to produce an iTunes LP package. The point was to provide a more album-oriented experience than the current digital marketplace does now.
Relapse Records has signed Savannah, Georgia’s Black Tusk. The band formed in 2005 and saw the release of their debut full-length, Passage Through Purgatory, last year via Hyperrealist. The band most recently released a series of split 7-inches with ASG, The Holy Mountain and Fight Amp.
Boston’s Dropkick Murphys have announced a run of headlining dates early next year leading up to their annual hometown St. Patrick’s Day performances. Prior to the six shows in Boston, the band will hit 13 cities beginning February 24th.
The band is also working on finishing their live CD+DVD, Live On St Patrick’s Day 2009, which is expected to be released in time for the shows next year.
More Nirvana tracks are headed to Rock Band. The game will be adding three songs from the band, including “Smells Like Teen Spirit” from Nevermind, “Come As You Are” from MTV Unplugged in New York and “Lithium” from Live At Reading.
Details on the recently announced 30th Anniversary edition of London Calling have been revealed. Set for release on December 14, 2009, exactly 30 years after the album’s original release in 1979, the album will feature a slightly different feature set than the 25th anniversary edition which is now out of print.
The new version will include the Don Letts documentary The Last Testament: The Making of London Calling as well as three music videos and some home-movie footage of the band. It will not, however, include the Vanilla Tapes from the 25th Anniversary edition. The Vanilla Tapes was a 21 track set of demos and alternate takes from the original recording sessions. In replacement for that, will be a new 20-page booklet and new vinyl “replica” sleeves to match the original version.
With their new album set for release on January 19, 2010, Spoon have begun announcing dates for an expected extensive world tour in support. The record will be issued on Merge Records in the United States/Canada and Anti- Records in Europe on January 18, 2010.
At present, Spoon’s sole confirmed Stateside headline appearance is a one-off New Years Eve extravaganza at the Riverside Theater in Milwaukee with Jay Reatard supporting. Produced by the band, Transference will be preceded by first single “Written In Reverse,” which will be released digitally December 1. A seven-inch vinyl release will follow January 5 featuring the exclusive B-side “Mean Red Spider,” which will not be available digitally.
The Ready Set has signed to Pete Wentz’ Decaydance. The band is mainly Fort Wayne, Indiana’s Jordan Witzigreuter he is currently in and out of the studio and will release his first full-length album in the spring of 2010.
In the wake of the release of their new record, Almost Home, Evergreen Terrace have hit the road with For The Fallen Dreams and British up-and-comers, Asking Alexandria. As always with Evergreen Terrace on tour, hilarity ensues! Their infamous tour antics have previously been posted to youtube in the form of video tour wrap ups from Japan, Europe and Australia’s Soundwave Festival.
Earache Records has launched a trailer for their forthcoming DVD set featuring At the Gates. Due out in early 2010 and titled The Flames of the End, the 3-DVD set will feature a documentary, Under A Serpent Sun: The Story of At the Gates, a live set from the band’s reunion at the Wacken Festival and 26 rare and live archive performances recorded from 1991-2008.
According to a Pitchfork report, Portland’s Thermals are already planning the release of their upcoming fifth album. The follow up to 2009’s Now We Can See is apparently expected September 7th, 2010 via Kill Rock Stars.
