No Doubt suing over misuse of image in Guitar Hero 5

Like the controversial use of Kurt Cobain in Guitar Hero 5, the (still living) members of No Doubt are suing due to how they are portrayed and used in the semi-sequel, Band Hero. As with Cobain, the game allows you to use the No Doubt avatars throughout the game, both with their own songs and with other band’s material.

Gossip site TMZ reports that “the band is particularly pissed” that Gwen Stefani’s animated image can channel a male voice to sing “Honky Tonk Woman” by the Rolling Stones … a song which contains lyrics about “having sex with prostitutes.”

Activision responded to this controversy similarly to the Cobain incident, saying:

Activision has a written agreement to use No Doubt in Band Hero – an agreement signed by No Doubt after extensive negotiations with its representatives, who collectively have decades of experience in the entertainment industry … Activision believes it is within its legal rights with respect to the use and portrayal of the band members in the game and that this lawsuit is without merit.

Protest the Hero plans Holiday Shows

Toronto’s Protest the Hero have announced several Canadian holiday shows in which they will perform their 2008 album, Fortress, in its entirety. Frontman Rody Walker explained:

We’re playing a couple nights in Toronto and the surrounding area and there’s also a Halifax show, and a Newfoundland show. We’re skipping the rest of the east coast… because there are too many rocks and trees… and Arif’s deadly allergic to rock of any form with the exceptions of prog and fraggle.

Rody also wants you to know that he bought Star Trek: The Next Generation on DVD.

The band released their live DVD+CD, Gallop Meets the Earth in 2009.

Cheap Girls Our Fest 8 videopalooza continues tonight with an acoustic performance from Cheap Girls. Whether in his bedroom or while traveling, Matt recorded these songs originally as demos, but the songs are perfect as is. We couldn’t ask for more. Anybody who loves the Alkaline Trio without the glossed over production will be incredibly happy with this final product. We plan on releasing various colors of vinyl and will be taking pre-orders sometime in DECEMBER”

Skiba last released a split CD with Kevin Seconds in 2002. Meanwhile, his Trio bandmate Dan Andriano has been playing solo shows under the name The Emergency Room, and Alkaline Trio are slated to self-release their next full-length sometime in the future.
