Toronto’s Hostage Life have announced their breakup via their blog. The band’s final show will take place at Sneaky Dee’s in downtown Toronto on November 20. They remarked:
“This may seem like it is coming out of left field, but one of us had some personal problems that needed to be taken care of and the rest of the band decided it would be better to break up than to continue a man short. Thanks to everyone that helped, watched, hated, loved, and listened.”

30 Seconds To Mars is premiering their new single in Dragon Age: Origins, a dark fantasy-based tactical RPG released by Bioware, the makers of Mass Effect and Jade Empire. Despite taking place in some indeterminate past of swords and dragons, the song apparently debuts in-full in the game.
Frontman Jared Leto explained:
We always like to push the envelope in the entertainment and media space and debuting our title track in a game of this caliber is a great way to communicate our music to fans around the world. We’ve come a long way from having to rely solely on radio to approach and engage music fans, and Dragon Age: Origins is the perfect game to do this with.
A Los Angeles judge has blocked the use of the Sublime name by bandmembers Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh. The estate of original vocalist Bradley Nowell filed a trademaerk infringement suit on October 21, in advance of the band’s performance at the Cypress Hill Smokeout Festival.
Nowell, who died of a drug overdose in 1996, had registered the ‘Sublime’ trademark under his own name prior to his death, according to the Nowell family. Wilson and Gaugh continued to perform after Nowell’s death under the name Long Beach Dub All Stars, but had recently revived the Sublime moniker after newcomer Rome Ramirez joined the group as lead vocalist.
It’s unclear what sort of bearing this ruling will have on the band’s future (though a name change at the very least may be in order), but Gaugh hinted at recording and touring in a recent interview, as well as opening free recovery centers for underprivileged teens in Nowell’s honor.
“We hung out a whole bunch in Toronto for a couple days at NXNE actually” … I was in a hotel room with him, just jamming. He was free-styling and we were hitting it off. Ever since then, we’ve kept in touch” … “Basically they want me to be involved in the next record somehow. He’s a big fan of the Shrines too, and he’s been asking me to write some songs… I’m on tour so much, but I was able to write a few tracks at home and send them in.”
