Interviews: Ryan Glasgo (Los Furios)
For close to a decade, Los Furios has battled drizzly, grey days in the city of Vancouver with its powerful, gritty style of grassroots ska, reggae and punk. In a time when ska music’s relevance, or even its existence, is being questioned, the band is proving naysayers wrong by continuing to release solid albums while playing scorching live shows with no signs of cooling down. Swans planning new album and tour
Influential post-punk outfit Swans have announced a return to action. The band, who were originally together from 1982-1997, will enter the studio soon to record their first full-length since 1996’s Soundtracks for the Blind. Frontman Michael Gira is currently demoing rough versions of new Swans songs; one of these demos, “Jim” can be heard at the band’s MySpace page.
Before the new Swans record, a CD/live DVD combo from Gira titled I Am Not Insane will compile these acoustic versions as well as a live DVD of two solo shows in a hand-made package, sold in order to raise money for the new Swans recordings. These will be available soon from Young God Records.
