Max Bemis re-opens custom song store

Max Bemis of Say Anything has re-opened his custom song-writing store aka the controversial and more controversial “Song Shop” project. As originally set up, the “shop” allows fans to purchase custom-written songs via a merch store for $150.00.

Part of the controversy stemmed from some people’s concerns about “for-hire” song-writing and the fact that the subject matter of songs was coming from paying customers rather than Max himself. Max himself responded to those accusations by arguing that detractors were simply “strange, slow and old.”

Henry Rollins talks about the Tea Party movement

Henry Rollins has contributed an editorial to Vanity Fair with his thoughts on the Tea Party Movement which has become one of the major causes of the right wing in the United States. Henry titled the editorial “We’re Gonna Have a Tea Party Tonight!” Some choice words from the article:

Then there’s Sarah Palin, who, egged on by other intellectually malnourished “real Americans,” has said so many startlingly stupid things in the last few days, the comedic furnaces won’t be cooling down any time soon! She’s a dynamo of dumbassity! An inferno of idiocy! Yes, Ms. Palin, 2012 is almost in your grasp!

Just when America really needs to get to work and move forward, some of the dimmest bulbs in the country decide it’s time to turn on and lead the race to the bottom. You silly grown-ups! The future is hilarious and very problematic, thanks to you. Cheer up! I’ll do my best to track your epic, very public nosedive.

Check out the editorial here. Some of his previous writing can be found here.

White Stripes plan “strong action” against Air Force over Superbowl Commercial

The White Stripes have posted a statement and are planning “strong action” against the Air Force Reserve after discovering a sound-a-like version of their song, “Fell in Love With a Girl,” used in a Superbowl Commercial. The duo posted this on their website:

We believe our song was re-recorded and used without permission of the White Stripes, our publishers, label or management, The White Stripes take strong insult and objection to the Air Force Reserve’s presenting this advertisement with the implication that we licensed one of our songs to encourage recruitment during a war that we do not support. The White Stripes support this nation’s military, at home and during times when our country needs and depends on them. We simply don’t want to be a cog in the wheel of the current conflict, and hope for a safe and speedy return home for our troops. We have not licensed this song to the Air Force Reserve and we plan to take strong action to stop the ad containing this music.

The band posted side-by-side clips of the commercial and their song so people can judge for themselves. You can find that here.
