Guest star packed new Broken Social Scene record arrives in May

Broken Social Scene Toronto indie rock collective Broken Social Scene have announced details on their next release. The album, for which a title has not yet been announced, will arrive on May 4th via the band’s Arts and Crafts label. The core group on the record will include Kevin Drew, Brendan Canning, Justin Peroff, Andrew Whiteman (also of Apostle of Hustle), Charles Spearin, Sam Goldberg, and Reverie Sound Revue vocalist Lisa Lobsinger. There are are a massive number of guests featured the album, including Feist, Stars‘ Amy Millan and Evan Cranley, and Metric‘s Emily Haines and Jimmy Shaw, Jason Collett, Do Make Say Think’s Ohad Benchetrit, John Crossingham, Marty Kinack, Julie Penner, Leon Kingstone, Sea and Cake’s Sam Prekop, Pavement‘s Spiral Stairs, Death From Above 1979‘s Sebastien Grainger, Poi Dog Pondering’s Susan Voelz, Helen Money’s Alison Chesley and The Weakerthans‘ Jason Tait. The album was produced by John McEntire of Tortoise and Doug McCombs.

A number of May tour dates have been announced in support of the record.

Medical examiner cites cocaine toxicity, alcohol in Jay Reatard’s death

Jay Reatard Medical examiners have released autopsy results in the death of Memphis, TN’s Jay Reatard. Shelby County Medical Examiner Dr. Karen E. Chancellor has cited cocaine toxicity as the cause of death, with alcohol as a contributing factor. Reatard, who’s real name was Jimmy Lee Lindsey Jr., was found dead in bed at his home on January 13th. He was 29.

Over the years, Reatard released material through Goner, In The Red Records and multiple other labels. His final album, 2009’s Watch Me Fall, was released by Matador Records.

Motion City Soundtrack: “Her Words Destroyed My Planet” (live on Jimmy Fallon)

Motion City Soundtrack Last night, Motion City Soundtrack performed their new single, “Her Words Destroyed My Planet,” on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. The song comes from the band’s new full-length, My Dinosaur Life.

The band is currently on tour with Set Your Goals, This Providence and The Swellers.
