Cap’n Jazz announce DC, Philly, Louisville shows

Cap'n Jazz The recently reunited Cap’n Jazz have announced a few more shows in Louisville, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC.

The band first reunited in January and last month, announced a July 17 show at Chicago’s Bottom Lounge. Their 1998 anthology release, Analphabetapolothology and is scheduled for a reissue through Jade Tree Records on June 15, 2010.

Tours: Nothington / Spanish Gamble

Nothington Nothington and Spanish Gamble have announced a tour together in May and June. The bands will start in North Carolina at Rad Fest before heading down to Florida and then making their way west.

Nothington continues to support 2009’s Roads, Bridges and Ruins, while Spanish Gamble just released their debut for Paper and Plastick, It’s All Coming Down, which is available for free download from us by clicking the button under ‘Free Downloads’ on the right-hand side of the site.

Jonny Stevens (ex-The New Breed) named Halifax Pop Explosion executive director

Jonny Stevens, solo artist and former frontman to Halifax punk act the New Breed, has been named the new executive director of the Halifax Pop Explosion festival. The five day music and culture festival, now in its 18th year, will take place from October 19th to the 23rd, 2010. Stevens has spent the past three years as the education and events coordinator with Music Nova Scotia and has serves as an instructor at the Nova Scotia Community College Music Business program.

The New Breed released Port City Rebels in 2003 and Off The Beaten Path in 2004 via Thorp Records.

EMI looking to license catalogue to Universal

The EMI Group is currently in discussions with Universal Music to distribute their extensive back catalogue in North and South America. If completed, the deal would give Universal more than 40% of the music market, with Sony at around 25%. For a cash payment of around $300 million, Universal would gain access to a catalogue that includes Goldfinger, Less Than Jake, Jimmy Eat World, The Specials, Fluffy, The Vines, Reel Big Fish, Amen, Body Count, Verbena, Radiohead, OK Go, Yellowcard, Mando Diao, Stiff Little Fingers, Iggy Pop, Ima Robot, Courtney Love, Crowned King, Beastie Boys, Squad Five-0, The F-Ups, The Libertines, Relient K, 30 Seconds To Mars, Saosin, The Living End, Everclear, We Are Scientists, Flashlight Brown, Over It, Phoenix, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, The Good, The Bad and The Queen, LCD Soundsystem, Jamie T., The Starting Line, The 101’ers, The Decemberists, Public Image Limited, Foo Fighters, Lily Allen, The Stooges, Depeche Mode, You Me at Six and many others.

Tours: The Hold Steady (southeast, west coast, Hawaii, Europe)

The Hold Steady The Hold Steady have announced more summer tour dates, including stops in the southeast, west coast, Europe and even a trip to Hawaii, hitting many cities not included on their fortnight of mostly east coast dates next month.

The band will be supporting their upcoming full-length, Heaven Is Whenever, due out May 4, 2010.
