Face to Face complete new album

Looks like Face to Face have wrapped up work on their first new album in eight years. The band’s frontman Trever Keith posted an Twitter update to that effect:

New Face to Face record is in the can. Heading back home for a few days, then it’s on to The Warped Tour.

The album would be the band’s first of all new material since 2002’s How To Ruin Everything, and the band’s first release of any kind since the 2005 retrospective Shoot the Moon: The Essential Collection. After retiring in 2003, the band reunited five years later and has continued to tour sporadically since.

Rise Against, Slightly Stoopid, Megadeth, Anthrax, Flogging Molly join BP Boycott

Rise Against has posted a press release indicating their participation in a boycott of BP, the oil company responsible for the environmentally devastating oil spill off the coast of the United States. The release also names Disturbed, Lady Gaga, Godsmack, Backstreet Boys, Rock Star Energy Drink Mayhem Festival, Slightly Stoopid, Rob Zombie, Megadeth, Black Label Society with Zakk Wylde, Anthrax, Creed, Filter, Hellyeah and Flogging Molly. It includes this statement from Warped Tour promoter Kevin Lyman who notes:

We have so many friends that are now affected by this spill that unless Bp spends whatever is needed their livelihoods are lost forever. To that end we are encouraging everyone we deal with to find alternative ways to get down the road this summer.

Jonathan Davis of KORN, who spearheaded the boycott added:

This is the worst thing that has ever happened to the environment in U.S. history. From everything we’re hearing about now, it’s become clear that BP cut corners to put profit ahead of safety. The message we are sending should tell all the oil companies to spend the money and take the necessary precautions to make sure this doesn’t happen again, I’m really proud that this many artists have already come on board, and I hope more will join soon.

The release also includes a list of products which use Bp oil as source material. Check out the release here.

Reel Big Fish announces band-selected Greatest Hits album

Reel Big Fish have announced plans to release a new, second Best Of album featuring 22 songs. While a greatest hits album was released in 2006. it was done by Jive Records, the ska/punk outfits’ previous label and led to the band publicly admonishing the label saying:

So Jive records (our former label) [put] out an RBF greatest hits CD because they see how well our live album is doing and they pretty much just want to screw us any way they can! they see that there’s still money to be made from the Reel Big Fish so they are trying to get a last little piece! There’s really nothing we can do to stop them since they own ALL our previous recordings!

The new collection will feature those 22 songs presumably culled from the band’s many albums including Turn The Radio Off, Why Do They Rock So Hard?, Cheer Up, We’re Not Happy ‘Til You’re Not Happy and Monkeys for Nothin’ and the Chimps for Free. The set will also feature a bonus disc featuring 14 acoustic tracks.

The Empire Shall Fall: “Arcarsenal (At the Drive-In)”

It’s our rendition of At the Drive-In’s ‘Arcarsenal.’ We tried to make it our own, so it’s not so much a cover, as much as an interpretation. Anyway, go and download it.

Puzzle Dimension Released

Puzzle Dimension is now available on Steam! Train your spatial visualization ability by navigating increasingly complex 3D puzzles. Your progression changes the audiovisuals – the retro look explodes in a fountain of pixels, revealing HD visuals, and the music reacts to your progress by blending between crystal clear music and 8-bit retro-style chip tunes.

The objective “pick all the sunflowers” sounds simple – but Puzzle Dimension is not your ordinary game world as ‘up’ and ‘down’ are relative terms as the gravity depends on where you roll the ball.

Bruce Springsteen / Gaslight Anthem: “No Surrender”

Some high quality footage of The Gaslight Anthem‘s duet with Bruce Springsteen last year has surfaced through Springsteen’s new DVD, London Calling: Live in Hyde Park . The disc is a full concert video DVD of Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band in their Working on a Dream Tour performance of June 28, 2009, at the Hard Rock Calling music festival in Hyde Park, London.

The Gaslight Anthem is also the subject of a new New York Times feature which notes:

This album feels more varied, and riskier, than the ones preceding it: not just an exercise in style, but also in ambition. The arrangements have more breathing room, and more dynamism, without sacrificing the band’s central tension between its insistent chugging and Mr. Fallon’s scratchy howl. In large part Mr. Fallon also abandoned the characters that he’d been hiding his personal stories behind in his songs.
