Bigwig: “Ashtray Monument (Jawbreaker)”

BigwigBigwig have (re-)posted another rare track. The new addition is the band’s take on the Jawbreaker classic, “Ashtray Monument.” The song comes from Jawbreaker’s last independent release, 24 Hour Revenge Therapy which was released in 1994. Bigwig’s cover of the song previously appeared on the 2003 Dying Wish Records compilation, Bad Scene, Everyone’s Fault: Jawbreaker Tribute. That compilation also includes Face to Face, Fall Out Boy, Sparta, Kill Your Idols, Nerf Herder and many others.

The reason for the re-posting is so that Bigwig could announce plans to release a remastered version of the song as part of a remastered b-sides compilation expected on vinyl and digital download later in 2010.

Check out the cover on their MySpace page.

Devo: “Something for Everybody”

New wave and punk pioneers Devo have posted a stream of their upcoming album. The band took an unusual route for the album, by launching an Official Song Study. The band posted portions of each of the tracks they recorded for the album and asked fans to rank and vote about which songs would appear on the final full length. Of the sixteen songs shown in this way, fans and study participants selected the 12 that will appear on the album itself. The record is titled Something For Everybody and is due out June 15, 2010 via Warner. It’s their first since 1990’s Smooth Noodle Maps.

The album is streaming on the Colbert Nation site. (Check the Flash widget on the right side of the page)

WEEK 8

Room For One, Everything Must Go, Favorite Weapon Class

New Mutation

Room For One

Only room for one survivor in this rescue vehicle.

You need to work together only long enough until you can survive on your own. First person to the rescue vehicle wins!

This Mutation is available for Campaign Finales Only.

Everything Must Go

Last week’s poll results for the question; If you could remove one item from the Survivors in Versus, what would it be?

PC Results

23% Nothing

19% Medkits

19% Defibs

18% Grenade Launcher

14% Explosive Ammo

 7% Incendiary Ammo

Xbox 360 Results

27% Nothing

21% Medkits

18% Defibs

16% Grenade Launcher

11% Explosive Ammo

 7% Incendiary Ammo

Overall:

In this kind of Poll we don’t consider “Nothing” the winner, as nothing to anything loses in both polls. What it does say is there are many things that people feel strongly about, maybe not strong enough to remove but strong enough that we should make some adjustments. So we are going to be making adjustments.

Favorite Weapon

This week’s in-game blog poll is; what is your favorite weapon class?

On the PC this week we are testing increased self-inflicted friendly fire damage for the Grenade Launcher. Will this change balance the Grenade Launcher? Time will tell. We will continue to experiment with changes on both platforms through this process.

This week’s in-game blog poll is: what is your favorite weapon class?

Max Bemis, one of the most controversial figures here on Punknews.org, recently spoke to Brendan Kelly of Lawrence Arms and Tobias Jeg of Red Scare about, well, Punknews.org and other things. Even though they mispronounce “Bemis,” Max is candid about his band, lyrical topics and also speaks honestly about why 5% of Punknews.org commenters are dicks (not his words).
