Pete Wentz (formally) unveils Black Cards

Pete Wentz has made a statement about his new project, Black Cards, which was unveiled last week. The former Fall Out Boy bassist explained the project:

I’ve got a new band called Black Cards. When [Fall Out Boy] went on hiatus, I wasn’t really sure what to do with myself. I Know I wanted to keep travelling the world with my family. We had been to Jamaica recently. I spent a lot of time hanging around the beaches and I started to get inspired again by songs like “Two Sevens Clash” and “Warriors.” I’d never heard any of these songs but could imagine them having an everlasting imprint, like people would dance to this stuff forever. I could feel that these songs really meant something. Not just in Jamaica but globally, crossing through culture and language. I started collaborating via email with my friend Sam, who I know from working on “As Cruel as Schoolchildren.” He had been listening to a lot of old British stuff and we mashed that with the island vibe in the studio. I wanted to try a female vocalist because I couldn’t imagine trying to replace Patrick.

Pete posted two clips from the collaboration: “Club Called Heaven” and “Beating in My Chest.” You can find both here.

Wentz’ bandmates from Fall Out Boy remain active in a variety of projects, including hardcore act Burning Empires, metal project The Damned Things and even performing with Earth Crisis.

Drummer Yuri Ruley to retire from MxPx

Drummer Yuri Ruley has announced that he will be retiring from MxPx after eighteen years in the band. He explained in a press release:

With MxPx being a touring band and constantly on the road 9 months out of the year, I knew at some point it would have to come to an end, but the reality of it is a lot harder than I thought it would be. MxPx has been my second family for nearly two decades, but I need to step away to focus on raising my family.

With Ruley’s departure, MxPx will be scaling back a bit to focus on the completion of their new live DVD/photo book and new EP. Vocalist and bassist Mike Herrera will lean his focus to Tumbledown’s sophomore release and guitarist Tom Wisniewski will continue with MxPx in conjunction with his new full-time job.

The band will be performing in Las Vegas on July 18th as a farewell to Ruley and celebration of their most celebrated release to date by performing the entirety of third LP, Life In General.
