Sultans (ex-Rocket from the Crypt, Heartaches) to reunite on Halloween

According to a report from Swami Records, San Diego’s Sultans will be reuniting for a one-off-show this Halloween. The band was a project formed by John “Speedo” Reis of Rocket From The Crypt (and Drive Like Jehu, The Night Marchers, Hot Snakes) during a break in Rocket’s activity in 1999. The band released two records through Reis’ label before calling it quits in 2007. The band will reunite at Bar Pink, the bar co-owned by Reis in San Diego’s North Park district. The reunion lineup includes Reis (aka Slasher) on guitar & vocals, Andy Stamets (RFTC’s ND, aka Black Flame) on second guitar, Reis’ brother Dean (aka Black Velvet, also of the Heartaches) on bass, and Tony DiPrima on drums.

Tickets go on-sale today. You can find more information here.

Week 21

Follow the Liter, Favorite Survivor, Whose back story?

Follow the Liter

Scavenge One Can at a Time.

Week 3’s Mutation did not win over the crowds, but we think that’s because it was misunderstood. It has a very different feeling than Scavenge and games tend to be much lower scoring. You have to remember, if their can goes up in flames – they have to wait for it to respawn. So get that can on the ground and use the Spitter to light it up!

For the month of September we will continue bringing back previous Mutations and explain why we think you should give them a chance. So if you missed them the first time, give them a chance. It won’t hurt. Probably?

Favorite Survivors

The PC crowd continues to love Zoey. The polls were pretty much identical except for the top two. xBox 360 users prefer Ellis then Zoey for their top picks. PC users prefer Zoey and then Ellis. Last week Bill (3rd place in this week’s poll) was ranked ahead of Zoey in the 360 poll and behind Zoey in the PC poll. I think PC players are sweet on somebody?

This or that?

For the new DLC for Left 4 Dead 1 and Left 4 Dead 2, “The Sacrifice” we have a Comic, Teaser movie and of course the game. Do you prefer to get a more in depth preview through the comic? Watch the teaser? Wait for the game? Or All of the above?

Next week’s Mutation: Developer’s Choice

Bonus: What would the Hunter do in Toy Story? What Hunters do of course.

Interviews: Tom May (The Menzingers)

The MenzingersBuzz around a band can stem from a variety of places. It might come from a catchy-but-not-too-catchy anthem, embracing live shows or a lyrical and musical honesty that radiates far beyond anything less sincere in the sometimes-bleak punk scene. With The Menzingers, their buzz has come from all of aforementioned sources and it continues to grow louder with every EP and LP they release. Just before leaving on a long stretch of shows across North America, The Menzingers co-vocalist/guitarist and “whirling dervish” (as described by Red Scare Records’ CEO Tobias Jeg) Tom May chatted with Punknews contributor Gen Handley about his affinity for Death Cab For Cutie lyrics and who to ask for if you’re ever passing through Scranton, Pennsylvania.
