Defeater begin recording new album

Defeater have entered the studio to begin work on their next album. The “avant-garde” hardcore band is promising another conceptual release, like their full length Travels and EP, Lost Ground. Vocalist Derek Archambault said:

While I can’t give up all of the details on the storyline quite yet, let’s just say that this new album will incorporate themes and characters that the listener has been introduced to already, in addition to bringing some new stuff into the mix. The writing process thus far has been very personally gratifying and I can’t wait to have another chapter of Defeater’s story out for the world to hear.

The band will spend the next month holed up at Getaway Recording Studio in Wakefield, MA, interestingly enough with their guitarist, Jay Maas, at the helm recording/producing. Maas owns and operates that studio, and has recorded bands like Bane, Cruel Hand, Soul Control and many others there.

The record is expected in early 2011.

Hard Eight, Whose Back Story?, Favorite Survivor?

Hard Eight

Double the specials, quadruple the fun!

Face eight Special Infected at one time, this is double the standard number! And if that wasn’t trouble enough, we also increase the spawning frequency so it is raining Specials.

During its first release, this Mutation gained popularity through the week as people realized how much of a challenge this Mutation really was. So if you didn’t try it the first time around, give it a shot.

Whose Backstory?

Last week we asked whose back story you were most interested in for the upcoming comic. We love them all, so no one is going to be disappointed but here is how you voted. I don’t think we can attribute this split to the controller!

Favorite Survivor?

Many Left 4 Dead 2 players have played Left 4 Dead 1. For those that didn’t, you met 3 of the Left 4 Dead 1 survivors in “The Passing”. Bill is normally a bit more active? You are about to get to play all 4 of them in the upcoming DLC “The Sacrifice”. Out of all 8 Survivors, who is your favorite?

Joey Cape: “Dreaming (Blondie)”

Joey Cape has posted a free download of his cover of the Blondie track, “Dreaming.” Joey explained the song choice:

I was on a US acoustic tour with Jon Snodgrass and Chad Rex a few years ago and this guy, Shaun Colón contacted me thru My Space about his studio in Dallas, TX. He generously offered to let us come in the day of our show there, free of charge (A one time deal I’m sure) and record a track. Well, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity but, I had no idea what song to record and no time to get anything new together. Chad and I started discussing possible covers and for whatever reason we agreed on “Dreaming”, a song from a female vocal, perspective. Ha ha. Anyway, I have always liked the song and the studio turned out to be an amazing space.

Check it out on his official website.
