The album will contain ten reworked and revamped older songs written by the band in the late 90s and early 00s that for whatever reason, didn’t make the cut on their studio albums.

The Ocean: “The Grand Inquisitor II – Roots & Locusts”

The Ocean Progressive hardcore and metal collective The Ocean have posted another second from the second release planned for 2010. On November 9, 2010, the band will release Anthropocentric which follows Heliocentric from April. The concept at the base of both albums is a critique of Christianity from different philosophical and personal angles. While the songs, art and lyrics of Heliocentric tell the story of the rise of the heliocentric world view and its effects on Christian belief from medieval times to Darwin and Dawkins, “Anthropocentric” challenges the views of creationists and other modern fundamentalists who still believe that the earth is at the center of the universe.

Hellmouth (ex-Suicide Machines) join Paper + Plastick

Hellmouth, the new project from Jason Navarro of The Suicide Machines, have signed to Paper and Plastick according to Noise Creep. The label will release the band’s second full length, Gravestone Skylines. It follows 2009’s Destroy Everything. Worship Nothing.. The band described their sound:

Our goal for existing is to take people back to the glory days of the underground and remind people of the fear, anger and honesty that once existed in a music scene that’s since gone soft and has lost all integrity. It’s back to brutal basics; making music that flows in the blood. Not punk. Not metal. Not hardcore. A crossover of all three to create a soundtrack for pain, misery and the end of existence.

They released a split with Explode and Make Up earlier this summer via Underground Communique Records.

Switchfoot: “Sorrow” (Bad Religion)

The latest cover in the MySpace and SPIN-curated tribute to Bad Religion has been posted. Switchfoot covered “Sorrow” from 2002’s The Process Of Belief. Switchfoot previously tackled the song back in 2006. Interestingly, Switchfoot takes its origins from the Christian alt-rock scene and Bad Religion’s Brett Gurewitz once explained to Punknews.org that “Sorrow” was deeply critical of the Christian view of god:

The devil said “Give me one example” and god said “Look at Job, he’s a righteous man.” The devil said that he could corrupt him like any man, and they made a wager. And that was god’s way of rewarding the one righteous man on the planet. That was god turning his back on the one man who was good and righteous. That’s not god, that’s religion. That’s an example of how detestable religion is. What is the lesson there?

As a bonus, we’ve included another cover of “Sorrow” from dutch punk outfit Travoltas.
