Kiss’ Gene Simmons: “Be litigious. Sue everybody. Take their homes, their cars.”

While participating in a panel discussion at MIPCOM 2010, Gene Simmons, bassist of hard rock outfit Kiss, had some harsh suggestions and comments on the effects and his suggested response to file sharing:

Make sure your brand is protected. Make sure there are no incursions. Be litigious. Sue everybody. Take their homes, their cars. Don’t let anybody cross that line. The music industry was asleep at the wheel and didn’t have the balls to sue every fresh-faced, freckle-faced college kid who downloaded material. And so now we’re left with hundreds of thousands of people without jobs. There’s no industry.

Simmons went on to tell a parable about the grasshopper and an octopus, no wait, it was this:

But that little fox went back with a free egg and told all the other little foxes about it, and then the foxes overran the farm, killed all the chickens, took all the eggs, and didn’t pay for it. Now the farmer lost his farm. His wife divorced him and went with another farmer who was smarter. The kids ran off because the spineless farmer didn’t have enough sense to kill the fox. The trucks that delivered the chickens-they’re all out of business. The stores that sold them-they’re out of business. Why? Because of one goddamn cute little fox. So don’t let any cute little foxes get near your henhouse!

Just in case you weren’t following this one, file sharers are the fox and I guess, music is the egg. The chicken represents Stonewall Jackson.

Alexisonfire to release “Dog’s Blood” EP

Alexisonfire have set a November 2, 2010 for their Dog’s Blood EP which they announced in September of 2009. Co-produced by Alexisonfire and Jon Drew (F*cked Up, Tokyo Police Club, Quest For Fire, Arkells) the EP features three vocal tracks and one instrumental.

Aterm coined by vocalist George Pettit, Dog’s Blood features brand new songs from the band. Guitarist Dallas Green commented:

They’re completely different-sounding songs and would probably never make it onto a full-length record.

A limited run of 2000 vinyl records will be available in three different color variations: one color will be sold through the labels, one color via the band’s official online store, and one color will be sold on tour.

Me First and the Gimme Gimmes recording new music

According to primitive Twitter user and band member Fat Mike, Me First and The Gimme Gimmes recently hit the studio to record, at the very least, a cover of an unnamed INXS song. No word yet on the breadth of said recordings, but we’ll keep you posted as more details emerge.

The infamous punk rock covers supergroup last released Have Another Ball in 2008, and will be touring the east coast later this month with labelmates Teenage Bottlerocket and Cobra Skulls, including an appearance at The Fest 9 in Gainesville, FL over Halloween weekend, where we can only speculate as to what their costumes may be.

Cro-Mags plan 2011 album

The current lineup of New York hardcore pioneers Cro-Mags are aiming to release a new album. The band, which includes vocalist John Joseph, guitarist AJ Novella (Leeway), bassist Craig “Ahead” Setari (Sick Of It All), & drummer Mackie Jayson (Bad Brains, Madball, Hazen Street), are aiming for 2011 with Joseph saying this:

You know, we are looking to release something next year. We always just roll with the punches. We want to release something with this line-up. My philosophy is: “I don’t talk about shit; I just do it.” When it’s getting ready to come out you will hear about it. That’s what I did with my books. I just wrote a film. There is no need to “big-talk” something. I think everybody knows what to expect, so when it’s getting ready to come out people will hear about it.

The band released Revenge in 2000, but without Joseph. Their last album with him was 1993’s Near Death Experience.

The Chariot join Good Fight Music

The Chariot have joined Good Fight Music, the hardcore and metal label formed by former Ferret founders and home to Cancer Bats, Madball, Conditions and more. Frontman Josh Scogin commented on the new album:

This is easily my favorite material that we have ever written for an album. I believe it is the most passionate release we have ever done, as well as the most impulsive. All of our records have a very spontaneous pulse to them, the songs are always in a constant state of evolving and growing, but for the songs for Long Live, we literally just let go. It was a very natural process and I think that comes across in the music

The band will make their debut for the label with their record titled Long Live and due out November 23, 2010 . They last released Wars and Rumors of Wars on Solid State Records and will be touring with The Cancer Bats and Stray From The Path beginning in November.

Interviews: MC Lars

MC LarsWith all the genre blending that happens in punk it’s no surprise that as the years pass hip-hop would gain an even stronger following with the punk crowd.MC Lars continues the trend with his self-stylized “post-punk laptop rap.” Although he’s a hip-hop artist Lars has sampled Fugazi, worked with Gabe Saporta and disses Gerard Way. And that was all from his last album. The emcee sat down with interviewer Alex Eschbach to discuss his follow-up to This Gigantic Robot Kills, Herman Melville, rapping in a library and the Insane Clown Posse.
