If you live in Los Angeles, dont forget were playing the Roxy Theatre this Friday night (the 18th). This will be our LAST SHOW before our tour in September. Ill talk about that later though…

We have two shows coming up at the beginning of September that we are really excited about. The first one is Taste of Madison on September 2nd on the WJJO stage in Madison, WI. Speaking of WJJO, the day before the show on September 1st well be appearing on WJJO, as well as doing a record store signing at the Exclusive Company in Madison that day. Well post the time on our website as soon as we get it.

On September 3rd well be flying to Atlanta to play the world famous Dragon Con, a convention that weve always loved to play with over 30,000 attendees. We first played Dragon Con years ago, opening for the Misfits and GWAR. This time well be headlining at midnight on Sunday night (technically Monday morning).

When we return to Los Angeles on the 4th, well be days away from leaving for a tour of the States with our friends Ill Nino and RA. Were really fired up to be touring with these two great bands! Look for the tour dates in my next posting…

Until next time,

World of Warcraft: What A Game Should Be

WOW! I mean literally, World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusades expansion looks incredible! Let me say it again, WOW! Before I go into the details, I would like to pose this question. Why cant every game company be as innovative, bold and dead on as Blizzard? It amazes me to see a company that can do so many good things for their players and continue to push the envelope of what a MMORPG or any Game, for that matter, should be.

On to the details. A few interesting things have been pointed out in this recent GameSpy article on World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusades. Lets start with the big ticket items. All new raids will be capped at 25 players. I think that is a great move. The current Ranking Ladder system for PVP is going to be scrapped. This is a big deal. Its the equivalent of EA dropping the ranking system from Battlefield 2 because they realize how flawed a system that requires power gamers to prey on casual gamers really is. In its place, there are going to be true tournament style PVP arenas called the Gladiatorial Arena System. Think CAL for MMORPGs. Players will form teams to compete in three different brackets: 2v2, 3v3 or 5v5. Even cooler, this system will allow inter-faction fighting. Now the Horde will be able to PVP against the Horde and the Alliance will be able to PVP against the Alliance.

Another cool PVP feature is the addition of a neutral city in the expansion that can be captured by a faction. The faction that controls the city will reap the benefits of its Quest Givers and NPC shops. In a move that really brings World of Warcraft closer to its RTS brothers, there will bombing run griffins doing Area of Effect damage and siege towers that can be destroyed. The flight paths will be fixed, but it sounds really cool.

The GameSpy Article is 3 pages and definitely worth the read even if you are not a WOW player. The ideas in this article are the pinnacle of what outside the box thinking can do for a game. Other game companies could learn a lot from Blizzard if they are paying attention.

Unreal Tournament 2007 Delayed

Midway/Epic Games have confirmed rumors that Unreal Tournament 2007 will not be released until the first half of 2007. Even then, the game could be released as early as January or as late as June. Unfortunately, Midway isnt getting any more specific yet.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the delay of the PS3?

Of the big 3 FPS to be released in 2006, Battlefield 2142, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars and Unreal Tournament 2007, only BF2.1 (aka BF2142) seems to be holding to their 2006 release date. Of course, we wouldnt expect anything less from our friends at Electronic Arts. 😉

Weekly (Sort of) Links of Interest

Like a bad clock, a week and a half later, we give you another installment of Links of Interest.

Our first link of interest comes straight out of our referral logs. Its not often we see a Hungarian website in our logs, so I decided to check it out. I cant read Hungarian and babelfish does not have a Hungarian translator, so I have no idea what it says. There was one word I did understand and it said Music. Nice of them to link to our site. While my interest in the Hungarian words is more curiosity than anything else, it was the pictures on the site that caught my eye.

I am not sure if these are original works or comments on others work, but I spent quite a lot of time just going through the site to look at the art work. So, check out this Hungarian Blog to see some incredible fantasy artwork.

Our second site comes by way of an accidental encounter. I was trying to find the font used in the Punisher Comic Book and ran across Iconian. This cool website is a comic geeks dream. It has tons of free fonts in tribute to the comic books that inspired their design. It was fun just going through the list to see which Fonts I could associate with the appropriate comic book.

Our third link comes to us from a story I was reading in the latest copy of Wired Magazine. I really wanted to talk about this article and it turns out you can read the whole thing online on the Wired Website. The article is a short brief on a lawsuit filed by the MPAA against Shawn Hogan for allegedly downloading Meet The Fockers. It turns out that not only does Shawn own this movie on DVD, but he happens to be the CEO of a multimillion Internet company called Digital Point. You may be aware of their largely popular Webmaster Forums.

Rather than paying the $2500 settlement fee also know as extortion money, Shawn has decided to take this to court even if it costs him hundreds of thousands of dollars. I am glad the MPAAs illicit RIAA like tactics of suing its own customers is going to be heard in a court of law. Suing your customers is not a smart move and it really needs to stop.
