Minneapolis, MN’s Banner Pilot have begun work on their third full-length and will be posting updates to their tumblr throughout the process. Here’s a snippet from the first update:

“Starting to make decent progress on things. Right now, here is where we are at: I have about 40 song ideas on my computer. The vast majority of these are garbage; stitched together chord progressions and random guitar noodling that tries, unsuccessfully, to hit on a good vocal melody idea. But! About 8 or 9 of them seem potentially good enough to end up as keeper songs. Of these, we’ve tackled 4 or 5 as a full band, recording demo versions at the practice space. Just in the last week, we’ve recorded two of them. ‘Spanish Reds’ and ‘Sleep it Off’. I think these two tunes will both end up on the album. Sometimes you can tell. On the last album, there were songs that immediately felt like keepers, and others (like a song we named “Blue Ribbon” because… well, take a guess at what might have been in the room when we wrote the song) are more like “I think this might be OK? I mean, maybe?”, which is a sign they’ll get scrapped later. These two, though, seem to fall in the former camp. Good sign!”

The band last released Collapser in 2009, and a re-imagining of their 2008 debut full-length Resignation Day is due out on September 14, 2010. The band will be appearing at Best Friends Day later this month as well as The Fest 9 over Halloween weekend.

The hardest working man in folk-punk, Frank Turner, keeps plugging away on the road in support of 2009’s Poetry of the Deed. Having just wrapped up a week of North American shows with William Elliott Whitmore and already confirmed for both The Fest 9 and as the opener on Social Distortion and Lucero‘s fall tour, Turner has announced a week of gigs in Germany beginning late next month and heading into early October.

Amherst, MA DIY hardcore outfit Ampere have completed work on a full-length for No Idea Records. According to the group, it’s comprised of fifteen tracks and is “several years in the making.” The band hopes to have it out by the end of 2010, and we’ll keep you posted on any future developments.

Ampere notably released a split 6″ with Ringers in 2007 as well as All Our Tomorrows End Today way back in 2004.

Protagonist have posted a behind-the-scenes look at their upcoming music video for “IAMTHEGHOST.”

The track comes from the band’s 2009 full-length The Chronicle, which will soon be followed with a new EP entitled States. Paper and Plastick recently set up a charity auction to help the band get back on their feet after their trailer was stolen in Tulsa, OK while recording the new EP.

• Screeching Weasel’s record Television City Dream is set to be re-mixed and re-released

The reunited Pixies have announced a Latin American trek in October. The influential band will visit Argentina, Chile, Brazil and Mexico on the trip.

These dates follow the band’s previously announced US dates in September. On that tour, which features support from Fuck Buttons, the band will perform their Doolittle album in its entirety along with related b-sides.

This September the University of Minnesota Press will be releasing The England’s Dreaming Tapes by Jon Savage, a companion book to the author’s 1991 book England’s Dreaming: Anarchy, Sex Pistols, Punk Rock, and Beyond . In researching the earlier book Savage conducted hundreds of hours of interviews with notable members of the early UK punk scene, material which will now be available uncut in the new volume. Personalities interviewed include all four of the original Sex Pistols, Joe Strummer of The Clash, Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders, Jordan, Siouxsie Sioux of Siouxsie and The Banshees, Viv Albertine of The Slits, Adam Ant, Legs McNeil, Howard Devoto and Pete Shelley of Buzzcocks, Syl Sylvain of the New York Dolls, Captain Sensible of The Damned, Jah Wobble of Public Image Limited, and others. Topics discussed include the founding of the Sex Pistols, 430 King’s Road and the Sex boutique, the scenes of New York and London as well as Manchester’s Factory Records scene.
