Anti-Flag, Black Pacific, Heartsounds at 5th Annual Rock To Roll Fundraiser

The lineup has been announced for the fifth annual Rock To Roll fundraising event. It is set at The Key Club in Los Angeles, CA on Wednesday December 8, 2010. The event will directly benefit the non-profit organization UCP Wheels For Humanity. Headlining the event this year is Anti-Flag and the night will also feature performances from The Black Pacific, Punk Rock Karaoke, Heartsounds and Destruction Made Simple.

Since 1996, UCP Wheels For Humanity has helped over 44,000 children and adults living in the poorest of conditions, in developing countries such as Zimbabwe, Vietnam, Ukraine, Mexico, Mongolia, and many others. Last year, the Rock To Roll benefit concert at Slims in San Francisco raised $23,000 for UCP Wheels For Humanity. Combined Rock To Roll fund raising efforts have raised over $100,000 since the annual event began in 2006. The average wheelchair costs $150 to refurbish, which means Rock To Roll has directly improved the lives of roughly 670 individuals in need.

Previous years have featured a variety of bands, from Against Me! and Mike Ness in 2006, Bouncing Souls and Flogging Molly in 2007, Alkaline Trio and Gaslight Anthem in 2008 and NOFX and Dead To Me last year.

Propagandhi looking for label

Propagandhi has posted an update revealing their label status and what kind of deal they are looking for:

We’ve had enthusiastic, but vague inquiries from a few labels and we really appreciate that. But we’re not looking for vague. We’re not looking for nebulous “what do you guys want?” inquiries. We’re looking for a strong, specific, enthusiastic offer that lays out in detail what your organization will do for us in exchange for releasing what will certainly be our wildest record yet.

The band released their last album, Supporting Caste, on Canadian indie Smallman Records, which since folded.

Eisley signs to Equal Vision Records

Eisley Eisley have signed to Equal Vision Records. The Tyler, Texas quintet signed to the indie after departing from Warner Bros. Records earlier this year, after two full-length albums and several EPs. Their third album is tentatively planned for an early 2011 release through Equal Vision. Eisley singer/guitarist Sherri DuPree Bemis said this:

It’s really refreshing for us to be working with a label that’s driven by passion and has made a name for itself by working really hard with bands they actually love. It’s especially cool for Eisley to be on a label that started out as a ‘punk’ label because despite not being a punk band in any way musically, we have always done our own thing, gone against the grain and fought for what we believe in and that is the true essence of punk. We’re happy to extend our (already extensive) family.

The band is currently on tour. Check out those tour dates here.

Hellmouth: “Exodus”

Hellmouth, the thrash/punk outfit featuring Jay Navarro of The Suicide Machines, have released another new song from their upcoming album on Paper and Plastick. The band will be releasing their second full length on November 16th. To coincide with the release, the band is doing a limited pressing in which the ashes of a burned bible are being pressed into the vinyl. Guitarist Alex Awn explained:

The concept of burning a holy book and sending its ashes off to the pressing plant to include in a limited run of the new album presented itself to us when we were in NYC earlier this year. Vinnie [Fiorello, Paper Plastick Records founder] did some research and found out it could be done, so we were pretty excited about it. As far as we know this is the first of its kind. I’ve heard about a company that presses your own ash into a record after you’ve been cremated but since we’re not dabbling in corpse desecration or body-snatching, a bible would have to suffice.

We procured an old German bible from the late 1800′s to sacrifice for the new album. It had scribblings and notes in it that dated it to the turn of the 19th century which was interesting. It was heavy, leather-bound and was sealed w/ a metal clasp. The type was set in a gothic script and it had some 3 color images on the recto pages. There was a lot of craftsmanship and man-hours that went into producing the book. Having said that, I wouldn’t get too misty-eyed on the fine craftsmanship of the book b/c it was the content we were focusing on and the rivers of blood left in its wake.

Find the song here.
