Mike Huguenor is a busy man. Moonlighting in Shinobu, Hard Girls and Classics of Love it’s amazing to think this man gets any sleep. . Shinobu put out their last full length Strange Spring Air on Quote Unquote last year and are putting the finishing touch on a B-sides collection. Hard Girls put out the Hello EP last year as well and are working on a split with Kudrow. Classics of Love released their debut in 2009 and are gearing up to record a new full length. Mike sat down with Tim McGowan and talked about song writing phenomena, South American tours, and made jokes about Operation Ivy and space age book reading technology.
A Wilhelm Scream guitarist Trevor Reilly has updated the band’s website with news that they plan on hitting the studio next month to begin work on a new full-length, shortly before they head to the midwest, then Canada for shows with Comeback Kid and Madball. Here’s a snippet of the post:
“Actually, Nick and I have already starting frustrating each other, er, I mean, jamming together and it’s just like old times, eh Nick? See writing songs with Nick consists of us both glaring at each other, me telling him his cymbals are too loud, and us taking lots of coffee breaks. That’s all I remember from our sessions, and somehow we write alot of songs together this way. I don’t understand it either, but it works. We start recording in August, and I’m thrilled. I love making full length albums more than anything and I am psyched to see where we go with this new material.”
No other details are readily available, but once out the new LP will be the band’s first since 2007’s Career Suicide, though they released a self-titled EP last year. Quick: Name someone whose body of work is a testament to the indomitability of the human spirit; whose strength and moral guidance informs your every decision; and who starred in one of the Police Academy movies.
Okay, and who isn’t Steve Gutenberg.
Or the guy who fooled crooks into thinking he was a police car by making police car noises. Okay, now go!
Did you guess Hightower? Oh thank God, because that’s what we called our new Payload map, and it is way too late to change it to Sweetchuck. Even though, now that we think about it, that’s a much better name that you should seriously consider just calling it anyhow. Way to name maps, Brandon.
