Ozzy Retiring From Ozzfest

MTV.com is reporting the following:

Its been rumored for months that this summers Ozzfest would be its namesakes last — and on Friday, Ozzy Osbourne announced that he is retiring as the headliner of the annual heavy metal festival. However, the singer is expected to finish this summers tour and plans to make occasional appearances at future Ozzfests.

“After 10 years, the Ozzfests name and reputation have been established,” he said in a statement. “Its time for me to move on and do other things.” His publicist noted in a statement, “Ozzfest will carry on in 2006, however Ozzy will limit his performances to only a few, select cities.”

Atomm Rambles and Rambles

I thought the front page needed an update and I’m too lazy to go search for news, so I decided to write up a little Atomm Nihilo Blog post. I know how much you enjoy my rambling, so here goes. 😛

This week has been unusually good. I can’t go into all the details, but a lot of things have really gone my way lately. Being the optimist I am, I fully expect next week to suck big time.

You may notice we have started a Ranked Battlefield 2 server. I must be honest. I was completely against it. The whole idea of having a FPS act like a freaking MMORPG leaves me feeling a bit empty inside. I use to play MMORPG’s. My Wife threatened my computer on a daily basis. I think marriage counseling was coming soon. My job suffered and I noticed I felt like shit all the time. Damn you Ultima Online. So, I switched to FPS because it’s a hell of a lot easier to walk away from a game of Battlefield, then it is to try to make that next skill point or next level. Ah come on honey, I know it’s 6 am, but if I could call in sick for work, I know I can make an Uber L33t level. To cut off my rambling, let me just say thanks to Jesus for Opening My Eyes. You have shown me the way and it is great to have a full server again, even if it means I have to play 235 more years to make my next rank. My life may go to hell in a handbasket, but at least I won’t be alone. Sorry honey….

If things go as planned, we will have a 32 player map Ranked server and a 16 player map Ranked server next month. Life is good, for the moment. I would also like to thank TCAdmin for the help with the TeamSpeak server. If it wasn’t for them, we would not be able to offer a free TeamSpeak server for anyone to use. They were kind enough to supply us with a 50 player server for anyone to use.

Along with the gaming goodness, we are working on two new podcasts. That’s right, 2!

The first one will be Gamers Radio Podcast. It will feature gaming information and industry interviews. I can’t tell you who our first interview will be with as I am still working out the permission details, but let’s just say it will involve patches 1.01 and 1.02. Cross Your Fingers as this could be good. Along the line of being addicted to video games, we are working on getting a well known Doctor to offer advice to those of you who are struggling with a gaming problem. If we can pull this off, I promise Dr. Kill will help you overcome your Smacktard ways!

Our second Podcast will tie into our 24/7 radio station. As many of you know, we try to do our best to help promote top quality unsigned artists. We have been very lucky to find a lot of great bands. Even luckier, we have recently talked to a few bands about being a part of our second Podcast called Rock Bone Radio. Each show will spotlight an Indie Rock Band, giving a chance to learn more about them and their music. We already have two bands lined up and plan on working to bring you more top notch Indie Artists. We hope you enjoy both shows as much as we will enjoy doing them.

Slightly off topic, I read that the next version of Windows (aka Longhorn) is going to be called Vista. That is a really strange name if you ask me. Or at least thats what I thought until someone explained that it stands for Viruses, Infections, Spyware, Trojans and Adware. Now it all makes perfect since.

Well, I guess that is enough rambling for now. You know, for a lazy ass bastard, it sure took me a long time to write all of this. Maybe I should have just surfed for news to copy and paste.

Frag you on our new server.

Sevendust New Album

Its no secret I am a big fan of Sevendust. If youve seen them live, you know why. I was starting to wonder what they have been up to and stumbled onto this new Press Release:

Press Release

New York, NY (June 27, 2005) – Sevendust is teaming up with innovative newcomer WineDark Records and its distribution partner, Universal for the upcoming release of their fifth record. Sevendust is an Atlanta, GA-based hard rock group who clawed their way through the late 1990s and early 2000s with a string of hit albums, forming the backbone of a sound and aura that defies mere typical genre classification. Beginning with their 1997 self-titled debut and continuing through to their most recent record, Seasons, Sevendust despite a self described “roller coaster ride” has sold nearly four million units in the US alone and is poised to expand its domain.

(Sevendust) “We have been on a roller coaster ride since May of 2004. We replaced our management company with MG Management, dug out of financial despair, watched a record deal dissolve, and replaced a guitarist all in the course of six months. This left us in the position to do things one-way, our way. In January of this year, we locked ourselves away and shut out the outside world and began writing, recording, and self-producing or fifth album entitled, Next. For the first time since very early in our careers, we had no outside interference, no one telling us how to sound, no one telling us what to look like. The end result is truly gratifying. After feeling like a battered and ugly wife for so long, it was amazing to see the reaction to what we created from such a large percentage of the record industry. After weighing many options we decided to sign with Winedark/Universal who subsequently offered us our own record label imprint, 7Bros. Records. The excitement that we feel from these individuals, is something we have never felt before. It is safe to say we dont feel so ugly after all.” Sevendusts fifth record, Next, will be available on October 11 th, 2005.

Sevendust launches own imprint, 7 Bros. Records, signs to Winedark/Universal-Fontana.

Foo Fighters New Album SUCKS!

I bought the new Foo Fighters – In Your Honor (2 Disc) Album the other day and decided to rip a few songs for the station. The first thing that pops up when I put the CD in my computer is a licensing agreement. Hell no I wont agree to this crap. I hit cancel and it ejects the cd. Crap.

Now I put it back in and do a cancel task instead. The agreement goes away and I proceed to use Audio Grabber to create the mp3s for the station. All done. I listen to them and they are all scrambled. What the hell? I do a google search and it seems a lot of people are having problems with CDs from EMI. I found a site that tells you how to get around this DRM crap. It offers up a suggestion to use the program called ISOBuster. I download it, install it and rip away. Once again, the songs are scrambled. CRAP!

I try a third program I already had called Exact Audio Copy (EAC). You guessed it. Songs were scrambled and useless. I have now wasted 3 hours trying to rip these songs so my listeners can enjoy the album.

You know what? Screw EMI and shame on your Dave Grohl for allowing this crap to be put on your album. Not only am I going to go find the songs on P2P, but I am not going to add any songs from the Foo Fighters to the station. I refuse to pay the Foo Fighters one red cent for their music for allowing something so stupid to be put on their album and cause legitimate users so much hassle. You know what? DRM does not work. Sure you stopped me from ripping it, but someone else already has gotten around it and posted the songs to the P2P programs. You cant stop them, but you sure as hell pissed off a legitimate customer and a legal Internet Radio Station who would have helped promote your music and pay you royalties.

Good Job, Jerks……! Thanks for wasting my evening. I could have been ranking up in Battlefield 2 instead…..!

BF2 1.03 Patch On The Way

This was posted to the EA UK Forums. It hasnt been 100% confirmed, but it looks official. Sounds interesting…..

Hi everyone, and thanks for supporting BF2. Thanks to all of you out there,
BF2 has seen great success around the world and we’d like to thank you all
for that.

Since its launch, we’ve tried to give BF2 all the support it deserves by
releasing patches with the fixes and improvements you’ve asked for.
Unfortunately, we haven’t lived up to the standards we’ve set for ourselves
and we know that. So all of us at EA and DICE are working extra hard to make
sure that the BF2 experience improves dramatically in the coming weeks.

Towards the end of August, we will be releasing a new patch, 1.03. This
patch is currently underway and will undergo thorough testing before it goes
out to avoid the problems that have occurred in the past. There are over 140
fixes and improvements in this patch. Here are just a few of them:
