Butterfly, A Bomb?

Ashton Kutchers new film, The Butterfly Effect comes out this weekend. Based on the previews, I want to see this film. Apparently, the critics do not like the film and have lambasted Kutchers performance. Either way, Ill probably watch it when it hits video, but if you are interested in more information about this movie, drop by this website: http://www.boston.com/news/globe/living/articles/2004/01/23/kutcher_falls_flat_in_the_butterfly_effect/

Feargus Urquhart Discuss Black Isle and the Future

Feargus Urquhart, former leader of Black Isle Studios did a two part interview with Gamespot. In it, he discusses Interplays future role for the Black Isle brand name and the future for his own company, Obsidian Entertainment. It seems he is once again working with Bioware on a new, unamed game and is looking for a second project to start developing.

I have enjoyed almost every game I have played where Black Isle had a hand in the development and I am sure Feargus Urquhart had a lot to do with that. I cant wait to see what he puts out next.

I wanted to point out one especially interesting comment he made about developing a Battlefield 1942 type game. That is a far stretch from his past projects, but I love BF42 and Ive loved his games, so why not!

You can read part one here and part two here.

Desert Combat 0.6f Released

The ever-popular mod Desert Combat was updated and released yesterday to add enhancements and bug fixes.
This update is considered one of their biggest updates with the inclusion of three new maps and MANY new vehicles.
The team has been working on making the teams more balanced and this update seems to have helped a little bit. While they do note that there are still some issues of some things being more powerful then their counterparts, they do mention that they are still working on this issue.
From a personal perspective:
I played this updated mod at a LAN party yesterday from both sides and thought that things were better when it comes to balance. The new vehicles seemed to be the causing factor in this. I highly recommend trying out this update if you have been unhappy with the previous ones. Click “read more” for the list of updates for this mod.

Battlefield 1942 Adds Punkbusters to Prevent Cheating!

I am glad to see EA address cheating in BF42. It would have been nice if they had done this from the beginning. Hopefully they learned their lesson and will incorporate this into future games. Here is the message from the Official Battlefield 1942 website.

In response to the #1 request from the community, DICE & EA are proud to announce the inclusion of anti-cheat measures in the next patch for Battlefield 1942. The Battlefield team is committed to providing an exploit-free gaming environment for members of our community. Our goal is to have measures in place which address both current and future cheats. As such, after researching existing anti-cheat programs, weve determined that Punkbusterâ„¢ suits our purposes perfectly. Well keep everyone updated as to our progress. For now, we have successfully integrated Punkbuster into the upcoming 1.6 patch and were in the process of testing it.

Battlefield 1942 Custom Maps

I did not post any info on our Custom Map Friday Night, but I promoted it on PlanetBattlefield.com and BF42.com, along with my local lan group. I wanted to give a review of the maps we played last Friday night and what I thought of them.

The three maps we played for Regular Battlefield 1942 were:

Okinawa

Battle for Rome

Valley of the Shadow

To get the reviews and my favorite of the three, click Read More.
