Dashboard Confessional has announced a tour to celebrate the 10th anniversary of 2000’s The Swiss Army Romance. Chris Carrabba will be hitting the road solo playing the first studio album in its entirety on the 17-date tour. Plans are also underway for a a deluxe version which was last reissued in 2003 on Vagrant Records.

The all-vinyl release will feature a newly remastered version of the album spread across five 7-inch records. The records are encased in an intricately folded Swiss Army-style box with expanded artwork, guitar picks, never before seen photos and handwritten lyrics. The box set will only be sold through the band’s website and will be limited to 1,000 numbered copies.

Our friend Kris Roe of the Ataris commented on the cynicism displayed by some commenters with regards to the Ataris return to more DIY releases and smaller venues. He makes reference to the band’s major label success in the early part of the 2000s with the Sony released So Long, Astoria:

I find it slightly ironic that the same people here who would now criticize me for playing smaller, more intimate DIY dive bars free from all the “Clear Channel / Live Nation” bull shit are likely the same holier-than-thou “i’m more punk than you” kids who criticized my band when we were out playing in front of 2000 kids every night at big souless over priced rock clubs while having hit songs on the radio. I have no interest in pleasing anyone and I write what is true to me. I could care less what anyone expects of me. Punk rock is not a fashion show.

I have never been nor ever will be anyone’s puppet. Punk rock is about taking risks and not doing what people expect of you. We have a very giving fan base and are very honored for that, We are still able to travel all over the world playing for great crowds and doing it on MY OWN TERMS, all this while remaining humble and true to what i believe in. So say what you will.

The band released an acoustic street performance of their new song, Graveyard of the Atlantic earlier this month.

Darkest Hour drummer Ryan Parrish will be releasing a new double album of ambient and noise tracks under the name Years. Magic Bullet Records commented on the release:

Semblance is 24 tracks (12 on each disc) of full immersion into the melodic and near-meditative id of its creator. Glacially paced and deliberate, the album is much more of a linear journey than a traditional collection of songs, striking somewhere around the sweet spot of SIGUR RÓS’ emotional pitch and GROWING (good/old GROWING)’s exploratory and child-like sonic ambition.

Only 500 copies are being made, with a release on November 16, 2010. A track from the album is available via the label.

In a new interview for Billboard, Bad Religion talked about their 30th anniversary, their new album, The Dissent of Man, and frontman Greg Graffin‘s new book, Anarchy Evolution. Bassist Jay Bentley said this:

It doesn’t feel like 30 years. It’s just been happening and been a big part of my life. It wasn’t something that happened 30 years ago that we’re celebrating an anniversary of; it’s 30 years of this band, 30 years of a scene. That’s kind of how we’re thinking about it. If we start looking at it as what we are, what we did, it seems pretty weird. We just know it’s been a long time.

When the concept of this album came up, we started talking…’What exactly is a 30th anniversary album? Do you open it up and cake comes out?’ ” Bentley recalls. “It makes sense that an anniversary album would be a retrospective or a best-of. But if you make a new album, how do you approach it? We just made it like another Bad Religion album.

Greg Graffin talks about being an “elder”:

[An elder is] an important part of our culture, because it ties the past to the present and it helps anchor tradition. Bruce Springsteen is a perfect example of an elder. You see his shows now and they look pretty much the same as the classic shows of the 70s, he’s deffintely the connection between that era and the present. Since about ’07 or ’08, he and I have become sort of acquiantances and friends, he’s brought his kids to our shows. It was a great thrill for me to discuss songwriting backstage in New Jersey.

In an interview with The Punk Site, A Wilhelm Scream front man Nuno Pereira talked about a new album:

Next year hopefully. We have a few songs written for it already. Six or seven songs banging around. So once we get that many more we are hopefully going to record in November and get the record out for maybe end of winter or springtime release.

The band released A Wilhelm Scream [12 inch] in 2009, their first release for Paper and Plastick.
