Everyone is trying to learn as much as possible about the upcoming DICE game, Battlefield 2. We are no different than you my friend. We want to know everything we can get our grubby little hands on. (Dont believe the rumors, small hands and, well you know….) To help feed the frenzy, we put together a mini FAQ of sorts from our various news sources. These are the tidbits we thought were unique to BF2 and interesting. We even included classes and weapons.
One thing is for certain, this in not your Grandfathers WWII Battlefield Game
– More than 100 players will be able to play on a single server (I hope they get the netcode right Ed.)
– Civilian vehicles are fully operational
– Once you pick a side, a class and name, that character exists
– The game will compile stats and scores your character on a game by game basis
– Global servers accrue your characters stats
– You will acquire rank based on your progress
– Points will be awarded for things beyond killing and flag capturing, including healing, spotting for bombers, pilots get points for kills made by their gunners, etc
– Officiers will gain access to a special Officers Club
– Some servers will be set aside for only Officers, so new players will not be allowed in
– The position of commander will be based on rank
– The commander will have abilities no other player in the game will have including calling air or artillery as well as being able to communicate with individual squads
– This game will support VOIP using a USB headset and mic
– Some vehicles will provide bonuses based on the classes riding in them
– For instances, a jeep with a medic becomes a healing vehicle within a certain radius. Add a heavy infantry and it gets armour. Throw in a sniper and it gets a speed boost
– Maps will have three circles of playable area. As the number of players increases, another circle outside the existing area of play will open up. Reach a higher plateau of players and a third area of players opens up
– Vehicle availability will be based on this same concept
– Loose too many players and a circle will disappear. Dont worry though, youll have a few seconds to get to the existing area of play or be killed. DICE was nice enough not to penalize you either
Remember a little known mod called Desert Combat and the developer Trauma Studios? Curious to know what they have been up to? It appears they have been a third party consultant to DICE in the development of Battlefield 2. Thanks to them, medics get defibilators (One Word, CLEAR!) and up to 10 people will be able to shoot from a repel line on a helicopter. Very cool stuff!
