Preloading of Day of Defeat: Source will begin next week. It will be released and ready to play on September 26th. Once we get closer to that date, well set an exact time for when well “throw the switch.”
Preloading the game allows people to have the entire game on their hard drive in encrypted form so that, if already purchased or pre-ordered, it will be playable at the moment it is released. Dedicated server administrators will also have some time to get their servers up and running before the 26th.
Hundreds of buyers of “Half-Life 2,” the hotly anticipated shooting game released last week, are reporting in developer Valve Softwares user forums that they feel queasy and often develop a bad headache after playing the game for as little as an hour.
From the comments, here is an itneresting take on the problem:
“Most First Person Shooter games have a fov of 90 degrees. The default in Half Life 2 is 75 degrees.
…Go into options and go to keyboard, hit advanced options and enable the developer console “~†then go back into the game and press the tilde “~†key to enter the console. Type these commands:
sv_cheats 1
fov 90″

Considering I had the same problem with HL, I fear I can not play HL2 either. 🙁 – Atomm
With the indefinit suspension of 20,000 accounts, it would appear that Valve is on top of any attempts to pirate Half-Life 2.
In a statement, sources within the company said that, “The method used was extremely easy for Valve to trace and confirm, and so there is no question that the accounts disabled were used to try and illegally obtain Half-Life 2…Valve did not put out any kind of fake key or fake wares or hack instructions to trap people. The hack came from the community as do they all.”

Well, how bout that, the Swedes have let the cat out of the bag.
Information on Half-Life 3 has been leaked! But really, people should not be suprised. Really, who would have thought that Valve would continue a popular title? Did it work for Doom, Quake, etc…? Umm… Yeah, big time!
“Swedish mag Gamereactor has broken cover (and, it appears, its non-disclosure agreement) by claiming that Valve CEO Gabe Newell revealed that Half-Life 3 is in the planning stage at the Seattle developers.”

Steam News is reporting the following for peeps who bought HL2 early. Yet another way the man can stick it to the little guy.
If you have purchased a copy of Half-Life 2, we are sorry you are still waiting to play. This is not Valves choice. Vivendi is insisting that the game has not yet been released, and has threatened that Valve would be in violation of its contract if we activate the Half-Life 2 Steam authentication servers at this time.
Thanks for your patience and we will update you when we have more news to share.
Australian fans of Half Life 2 rejoice. It received a rating of MA 15 + and will be sold in Australia according to this article at GameSpy.
It appears that HL2 received a rating of R(18+) in Europe. This doesnt really mean anything for Europeans unless they are under 18. However, Australians may be in trouble as Australia has not accepted any games that fall into the R(18+) category.
We will keep watch to see how this unfolds….
Gamespy.com had an interview with Doug Lombardi in reguards to Valve Softwares Half-Life 2. This interview asks many great questions that are on the minds of gamers waiting eagerly to jump into the action of Half-Life 2.
“Will the boxed versions of HL2 require any sort of Steam installations?
Doug Lombardi: During installation the user will be prompted to authenticate the copy and create a Steam account. After that is complete, the single-player and LAN games do not require an Internet connection.”
Looks like Valve is taking a good step towards hindering software piracy with this action.

It would appear that all of the assumptions of Half-Life 2 going gold were accurate and we even have a release date.
November 16th 2004
Gamespot has posted a news article with all of the information. Well, GameSpot has an article talking about how Vivendi Universal Games has the right to hold onto the much anticipated Half-Life 2 for another six months.
“Court filings show VU Games has the right to sit on finished Half-Life 2 code for up to six months. Could it be deja vu all over again?”
Could this be yet another addition to the soapopera of Half-Life 2?
