ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead Update Released

Updates to ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted.

Highlights

  • Arma 2: British Armed Forces Lite – all units, vehicles and weapons from Arma 2: British Armed Forces are included in this patch with lower quality textures and audio files. The full version of Arma 2: British Armed Forces with high resolution textures and packed with a new campaign and large selection of new single player missions is available for purchase, see http://www.arma2.com/baf for more information about the content of Arma 2: British Armed Forces.
  • Numerous stability and functionality fixes and improvements.
  • Reworked MP Session Browser and Mission Selector.
  • Engineer – Engineers have undergone some serious training and are now capable of repairing damaged vehicles and defusing mines. An engineer can patch up a badly damaged vehicle, making it operable. A damaged component can be repaired to 60% status; however, note that the total damage inflicted upon the vehicle persists, and further damage will be calculated cumulatively. An engineer can defuse mines, satchels, and IEDs. It’s possible to order an engineer to repair/defuse something by standing close to it, selecting ‘engineer’ in your command bar, and then pressing ‘6-1’ (‘action’ > ‘defuse’/’repair’). If you are engineer yourself, simply select ‘action’ > ‘defuse’/’repair’ from the Action Menu (default binding is the middle mouse button).
  • Artillery Computer – All indirect fire weapons can exploit the brand new artillery computer by selecting it in the Action Menu (default binding is the mouse wheel). The artillery computer initiates an interface where you can see your weapon, and the associated minimal and maximal ranges on the map. You may adjust your fire mode in the menu to the right and select the target area that your ordinance will strike. The display will indicate an estimated time to target; once you fire the ordinance – by clicking the ‘Fire’ button – the interface will track each shot. Your aim will change according to your actions once you leave the artillery computer.

You’re headed in the wrong direction.

The new featured community campaign for PC players is Detour Ahead. This 6 map campaign offers Co-op and Campaign gameplay. While the explosion in the finale will light the night sky, it’s the train bridge you will remember.

To play, first make sure you have the Left 4 Dead 2 Add-on support downloaded in the tools tab of the Steam library.

To download “Detour Ahead” please visit our friends at L4DMaps.com

Double clicking the vpk should install it but you can also copy the vpk to \Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead 2\left4dead2\addons Either way that is where the vpks need to end up.

Start up Left 4 Dead 2.

Choose to play online and any available game/lobby in your area will show up. Or you can create your own game and choose addons and select Detour Ahead for the campaign.

Since we have the servers up, you can choose Official Dedicated for server type.

If you missed the news, we announced new DLC for Left 4 Dead 1 and Left 4 Dead 2. It will be coming out in October and Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 will both be getting the brand new campaign, “The Sacrifice.” This will give you a chance to play out the events before “The Passing” using the Left 4 Dead 1 characters. In addition to “The Sacrifice” Left 4 Dead 2 will also be receiving the “No Mercy” campaign. With official inclusion of Left 4 Dead assets, we will be able to simplify the steps for playing community content in the future. Until then, you will need to make sure you download the Left 4 Dead 2 Addon Support.

Do you think you are pro? Hate playing Versus against newbs? Time to put up or shut up with CEVO launching a brand new Left 4 Dead 2 Tournament. The CEVO tournament will be running the latest Confogl configuration. Visit their site for more information. Arsenio, who runs our Valve store is promising Boomer plushies to the winning team. I think we need to bug him to come up with more than that… Arsenio?

We will have more news in the coming weeks on the DLC including a rockingly brand new contest next week and more news on the comic coming out this September. It’s a good time to be a zombie killer.
