Lock and Key birthday party features Teddy Duchamp’s Army, Captain We’re Sinking and more

Lock and Key Collective is celebrating it’s third birthday in Pittsburgh, PA on August 7th, 2010 with a show at Garfield Artworks. The first band on Lock and Key, Teddy Duchamp’s Army (members of Voice in the Wire, Anti-Flag) is reuniting to play along side Captain, We’re Sinking, The Holy Mess, Dandelion Snow, and Coal Miner.

The show will double as the CD realease show for the most recent Lock and Key release The Grand Scheme of Things by Dandelion Snow.

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists: “Everything Gets Interrupted” (demo)

Ted Leo And The Pharmacists Ted Leo and the Pharmacists recently unveiled an unreleased demo via Leo’s popular twitter account. The song, “Everything Gets Interrupted,” is a studio leftover from The Brutalist Bricks sessions. Leo explained:

“Demo I did on July 4, 2009 of a song that eventually was recorded with band and became a Brutalist Extra somewhere in the digital mess. Wish I could remember how I got the guitar tone for the solos…”

Leo recently rebuffed some swirling ‘early retirement’ rumors by announcing six weeks of tour dates.

Smoke or Fire hitting the studio to record new LP

Smoke Or Fire Smoke or Fire are currently on their way to Chicago, IL where they’ll be recording their next full-length. They’ll again be working with Matt Allison at Atlas Studios, the same producer who helmed the knobs for their 2007 effort, This Sinking Ship. The band intends to post a daily video diary to document the recording process, and guitarist Jeremy Cochran has launched an official twitter account for the group, promising succinct updates from the studio. We’ll keep you updated as more details surface.

Earlier this year Smoke or Fire released the Prehistoric Knife Fight 7″ to help tide over fans. The band will be joining several of their Fat Wreck Chords labelmates at CMJ in October.

Titus Andronicus Spin and MySpace have each posted their lists of the Best Records of 2010 (so far). The lists include Gaslight Anthem‘s American Slang, Titus AndronicusThe Monitor, Against Me!‘s White Crosses, Vampire Weekend‘s Contra, Spoon‘s Transference, The National‘s High Violet and more.

Bad Religion, Stooges join Rock Band next week

The upcoming batch of tracks for the Rock Band series of games come from two pioneering and classic bands. First, The Stooges will contribute three songs: “1969,” “I Wanna Be Your Dog” and “No Fun” from the band’s 1969 debut, The Stooges. The second set of songs come from Bad Religion will contribute two of their tracks to the game. First, the band will add the title track from their landmark 1989 album, No Control and the second comes from 2007’s New Maps of Hell, “New Dark Ages.”

You Blew It! posts three new songs

You Blew It! Orlando, FL’s You Blew It! has posted three new songs for download. The tracks will appear on the band’s upcoming EP for Good Friends, The Past In Present, due out on August 3, 2010. Check them out here and come back here next Wednesday, July 21, when we’ll be streaming The Past in Present in its entirety.

The band has also booked some east coast dates in support of the EP.

Pearl Jam: “Amongst The Waves”

Pearl Jam have released a new video for “Amongst The Waves.” The song comes from the band’s self-released 2009 album, Backspacer. The video was directed by Ryan Thomas and Brendan Canty (of Fugazi) and sales of the video via iTunes will benefit Conservation International’s Marine Programs. The band posted a page explaining their commitment to ocean restoration and conservation,

Fugazi nearly finished with live, digital archive

Fugazi fan-site World Of Fugazi spoke to Fugazi co-vocalist Guy Picciotto who confirmed that the band is nearing the end of a lengthy project to digitize their complete live archive. Guy said this:

We are not that far away from being able to set up our own website where ultimately almost every show we ever played will be available for download. The infrastructure for this new website is currently being developed and the band continues to sift through and convert the footage from its enormous live archive. There will be an official announcement on Dischord.com later in the year with more details when things get closer to completion.

The band has previously made available plenty of live material both through the Fugazi Live Series and through services like Etree.

Rage Against the Machine, Conor Oberst, plan LA show for Arizona protest

Rage Against The Machine Rage Against The Machine have announced their first Los Angeles show in a decade next week as part of the ongoing Sound Strike campaign against the controversial Arizona “immigration” law. The event is set for the Hollywood Palladium on July 23rd, 2010 and is expected to help raise over $300,000 for community organizations, student groups, legal defense funds and assist activists targeting key voting districts for voter registration.

Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band will be opening the shows and the concert is part of a week of national actions culminating in the July 29th day of noncompliance in resistance to the law which is set to be enacted that same day.

Tickets go on-sale this coming Monday.
