Mugshot (1997-2007)

Toronto pop punk act Mugshot has called it quits after ten years. The band’s MySpace page has statements from both vocalist / bassist Nick and drummer Matt, with the singer declaring his intentions to move on with his life and and the drummer stating that “I can assure you this was not a mutual decision, however how many breakups end on a positive note? Not too many.”

All of the band’s previously scheduled shows have been canceled.

Boredoms announce 77BOADRUM drummers: Gang of Four, Negative Approach, Andrew WK, Oneida

Osaka’s Boredoms have detailed their upcoming 77BOADRUM performance in New York City. The special show will feature 77 full 5 piece, 3 cymbal drum kits arranged in a spiral pattern. The Boredoms’ four kits will be surrounded by 74 additional drummers 10 of whom will server as leaders to queue the rest. The volunteer army of musicians were selected by event music director Hisham Bharoocha to represent many of the best players in New York City’s avant/experimental underground.

The ensemble will include Hugo Burnham of Gang of Four, Tim Dewit and Lizzi Bougatsos of Gang Gang Dance, Andrew W.K., David Grubbs, Hart Mingus of Negative Approach, Matthias Schulz of Holy Fuck, and members of Aa, Crash Worship, God Is My Co-Pilot, Sunburned Hand of the Man, Oneida, Excepter, Antietam, Dymaxion, Panthers, and many others.

77BOADRUM is the Boredoms’ final North American date on their current tour. The band will hit Europe in August. The long-running band released Seadrum/House of Sun via Vice in 2005.

Gang Green, Casualties, Boils, Giving Chase at Philadelphia’s Brotherly Shove Fest

Philadelphia’s Trocadero will host the Second Annual Brotherly Shove Festival. Over 50 bands will come together for the 5 day, 5 night, stage “celebration of independents.” The event notably includes a “Punk Rock Family Reunion” show on Friday, July 6th featuring Gang Green, the Casualties, the Boils and Giving Chase among others. Each night of the event focuses on a different genre, so fans looking for metal and hardcore or indie rock will have a day all to their own.

Black Tie Bombers post song from new split

The Black Tie Bombers have posted a new track from the recent split with the Frankl Project. The track is titled “George Bush Doesn’t Care About Kanye West” and can be heard their MySpace page.

The split is the followup to their recent full-length Eternal Happiness and Good Health, which you can still stream at their Punknews.org band profile.

Glassjaw to appear at Saints and Sinners Festival 2007

GlassjawMelodic-hardcore favorite Glassjaware the first band to be announced for the 2007 Saints and Sinners Festival. The festival will take place this November 3rd and 4th at The Convention Center in Asbury Park, NJ. The band played a few shows last December”, and earlier this year announced plans to release some new music.

Tours: Avail / Smoke Or Fire

Richmond’s Avail are set to hit the road for a handful of US east coast shows this fall. The band will be take their neighbors and labelmates Smoke Or Fire out on the trip with them.

Avail last released Front Porch Stories in 2002, but have since re-issued their Lookout! era releases on Jade Tree in 2006. Frontman Tim Barry‘s been making a name for himself as a solo artist in recent years, most recently releasing Rivanna Junction via Suburban Home.
