Swellers and Face to Face interview each other
Even though MySpace is clearly trying to copy our (probably) award-winning Band on Band series, they did it with The Swellers and Face to Face so it will be forgiven. The article includes Jonathan Diener of The Swellers and Trever Keith of Face to Face. Jonathan had this to say about Face to Face and the tour:
It’s just a punk rock summer camp, it’s a festival where it’s not just great exposure for your band it’s great for networking with so many people and it’s something special for the people coming to watch you. Even though we only play 30 minute sets we can cram in nine songs because we don’t take breaks. The fact that Face To Face is even on this tour is amazing for us. We played with them at the Groezrock festival in Belgium and they were one of my favorite bands of the day, they just sounded awesome. It’s always cool when people say we sound like Face To Face to them because we grew up on Fat Wreck Chords and Epitaph. So when we were watching them we were like, “I hope we can be like that someday.”
Keith for his part commented on the changes over the 15 years of the tour. Face to Face performed on the inaugural version of the Warped Tour back in 1995:
Well, styles and tastes have changed considerably. [Laughs.] I’m glad to see there’s still a skate ramp out here and athletes, which is really cool. But it’s become more like a carnival. It’s become more like Spongebob Squarepants… it used to be a little more rock ‘n roll and now it’s a little more dayglo, you know? We also haven’t been on the Warped Tour in nearly a decade and for a veteran band like us it’s a good way to connect with a younger audience.
The Swellers are supporting their Fueled By Ramen Records album, Ups and Downsizing. Face to Face recently announced the completion of their first album in eight years.

Thursday begin recording album #6
Thursday has entered the studio to begin recording their sixth full length and second for Epitaph Records. The band will spend the next few months recording at Tarbox Road Studios in Fredonia, NY with Common Existence and A City by the Light Divided producer Dave Fridmann (MGMT, The Flaming Lips, Mogwai) and plan to release the new album in spring 2011.
Frontman Geoff Rickly commented:
We’ve worked with Dave Fridmann before, but this is definitely the most we’ve ever clicked with him. In style, this record feels like a radical departure from our earlier records but in substance it feels like a return. The songs are more vulnerable than they’ve been in a long time. Some of the song titles include “A Darker Forest” and “Little Sparks Against the Sun”… It’s very atmospheric and mood oriented so far.
Since the release of Common Existence in 2009, the band toured with Dillinger Escape Plan, Converge, Bring Me The Horizon, Touche Amore, La Dispute, Young Widows, The Dear Hunter and Fake Problems. Rickly also contributed to his side project, the retro-screamo outfit, United Nations.

Hooky (RVIVR, Latterman) post 2007 demo
Hooky, a short-lived project from Matt Canino and Erica Freas of Rvivr, Latterman and Shorebirds, have posted a free download of their 2007 demo. The band performed only five shows in their short time together and recorded the six song demo. The band is asking for donations for those who download the record and add:
Hooky was a short, beautful, fucked up band from summer 2007 to spring 2008. We rocked hard, we stopped hard. Download our demo, or listen to it here, many of you have asked for this over the years and we’re finally making it available. Donations will go to the debt and then if that gets all paid up and we have cash left over, maybe we can do a 7″. Or order a pizza. It all depends on YOU!
Check it out here.
RVIVR released their LP this year to a great reception and can be downloaded at Rumbletowne as well.
