Strung Out talks European tour, release party, more

Strung Out has announced some of their plans in support of their new album. The record is titled Blackhawks Over Los Angeles and is due out June 12, 2007. It is the follow-up to Exile In Oblivion which was released in 2004.

The band has booked a European tour for the summer, and is also planning a record release party. They had this to say:

We will be having our record release party on June 9th in Simi Valley at one of the best skate parks in the US, “Skatelab”. The party will go from 7pm to 11pm with a private skate session going down from 10pm to 11pm. If you skate, come on down. If you dont skate, come on down anyway. Jake just might drop in on a ramp. We will be hanging out, signing some posters, have food and drinks, be playing our new album over the sound system all night, and showing our new video for the song “Calling”. It will be free and all ages can attend.

In our tour dates section, we’ve posted just about all of our tour dates for our upcoming European tour (a few more TBA) and we are looking forward to playing. We have not toured Europe for a little while so it will be great to be back. We know were not getting everywhere but were doing what time permits for now. We will do another European run in the near future. US touring will begin in August with a West coast run to include the western side of Canada. An east coast leg will follow in September (yes with eastern Canadian dates of course). Dates to be posted once confirmed.

We are stoked to be playing a huge show with some of our friends at Long Beach Arena on September 15th. Rise Against, Lagwagon, Strung Out, Silverstein, Comeback Kid is the line up..STELLAR. Should be a great time.

No Use for a Name talks tours, DVD, other details

No Use For A Name‘s big boss Tony Sly has posted some more information about their touring around their upcoming retrospective/greatest hits compilation. The record has been titled All The Best Songs and is due out July 10, 2007.

We are playing some west coast shows in July, so check our tour dates. The bands that are playing with us are really great. Whole Wheat Bread is an awesome band!! You might have heard them already but in case you didn’t I will leave a link at the bottom of this. We also have a new Fat band with us called the Flatliners who are great.

Anyway, our All The Best Songs record also comes out in July. I can’t wait to see the booklet, it should be pretty cool. Putting this thing together was like making a mix tape of my own band so it was kind of fun to do. I noticed that Bad Religion has a record coming on July 10th too, just like our best of. So you might see me at the record store buying that. Oh yeah, we are pretty clear to go to South America now. It is going to be so rad. I cannot wait. It really feels like I am going on a vacation with this tour. August, yeah. I suppose some time after that we will rehearse more and then record a new record.

Yeah!! The DVD? I’m not talking about the DVD until the DVD starts talking to me…

Originally announced in early February, the disc is now set to contain 26 songs including 2 unreleased songs. It will include a 24-page booklet with pictures, and commentary from the band as well as ex-members, mothers, crew members and Fat Mike. The record is expected to compile favorites from all their records up to and including their last album, Keep Them Confused, in 2005.

Horse the Band to be released in August

HORSE the Band has moved their upcoming full length to August. The record is titled A Natural Death and is now due out August 28, 2007. It is the follow-up to the Pizza EP which was released in 2006.

The band has been using some striking imagery in their pre-release material, which guitarist David Isen explained:

We posted a series of ads and pictures featuring dead wolves who were killed in an ‘un-natural’ way (i.e. by humans and technology). This is meant to explore the irony of ‘a natural death’ and make people ask themselves, ‘What is natural?’ Nature being murdered by man is paralleled by man being murdered by nature, which is a theme of our album,

Green Day’s “American Idiot” named “best comeback album ever”

Green DayAccording to a recent Rolling Stone article based on reader responses and their own nominations, Green Day‘s multi-gajillion-platinum selling record, American Idiot, has been named the “best comeback record ever”.

American Idiot was the highly successful follow-up to their 2000 release, Warning. Though it did not share the same mainstream success as American Idiot, Warning is viewed by many as a groundbreaking, yet honest approach by a band that many in the independent music scene had written-off. Our own former reviews editor, and current Alternative Press editor, Scott Heisel, awarded the album a perfect score. What do you think? Is American Idiot a better album than Warning? What are the great “comeback albums” in your collection? Let us know your thoughts below.
