Tours: Fat announces 1,2,3, Punk tour with Mad Caddies, Sainte Catherines, Real McKenzies

Fat Wreck Chords has announced the 1.2.3. Punk Tour. The Canadian jaunt will feature Mad Caddies, The Sainte Catherines and The Real McKenzies.

It was sponsored by the punk-oriented video program of the same name which airs on Quebec-based music channel MusiquePlus. It’s similar to MTV except everyone eats poutine all the time and speaks with adorable French accents. Also, they want to separate from Canada, like yesterday. On the plus side, they named a street after your correspondant .

1.2.3. Punk will be airing 8, 30-minute special episodes along with a live performance by all three bands at the Musique Plus studios when they hit Montreal. The tour starts on July 14th in Victoria, BC and ends on August 4th in Halifax, NS.

More details on upcoming Iggy Pop biopic

Nearly eighteen months since Elijah Wood was confirmed for the title role, Variety has posted some details about the upcoming biopic of noted figure Iggy Pop. According to the report, the movie will be titled The Passenger. The title comes from a track of the same name from Iggy’s 1977 solo album, Lust for Life.

The film will follow Pop’s early years with the Stooges and will be directed by Nick Gomez (“Drowning Mona”) from a script by Eric Schmidt. The film has a budget of $6 to $8 million dollars and Pop has “given his blessing” to the project but will not take part in it,

The Stooges recently released The Weirdness. The record was released March 20 via Virgin Records and marks the seminal band’s first proper release in almost 34 years.

Trophy Scars: ‘Hospital Music for the Aesthetics of Language’

Trophy ScarsAs a newly christened staff reviewer over three years ago I loudly sung the praises of Trophy Scars‘ self-released EP, Hospital Music for the Aesthetics of Language.

To this day it still stands as my favorite release of the band’s ever-expanding catalog (which now consists of a pair of full-lengths and EPs apiece, with another full-length currently in the writing stage). Released in limited quantities, it’ll now see a well-deserved reissue courtesy of Reap What You Sew Records, with all-new artwork in tow.

The EP is full of cathartic, explosive, dynamic, ambitious and scathing post-hardcore (seriously, all at once), and we’re now streaming the whole deal on the band’s Punknews.org profile page.
