Gogol Bordello to return with “Super Taranta”

Self-styled gypsy punk act Gogol Bordello has announced plans to release a new album this summer. The record is titled Super Taranta and is due out July 10, 2007. It is the follow-up to Gypsy Punks: Underdog World Strike which was released in 2005.

For the record, the band worked with producer Victor Van Vugt (Nick Cave, PJ Harvey) and bandleader Eugene Hutz notes:

With Super Taranta! Gogol Bordello is going to conquer the world. Everything on the album is taken to the next level. It’s more direct, more abstract, more focused, with more dark humor. The dub parts are deeper; the fast parts are faster, its pure orgasmo hysteria.

ictor has been a fan since the beginning of the band and we often spoke about making an album together. He’s not afraid to experiment in any way; he’ll go wherever we’re willing to go. If we say: ‘This track is gypsy speed metal dub,’ he says: ‘OK let’s do it.’ No hesitation.”

You can check out the cover art on the album’s release detail page.

Yellowcard: “Light Up The Sky”

Yellowcard has posed a new track from their upcoming full length. The record is titled Paper Walls and is due out July 17, 2007. It is the follow-up to Lights and Sounds which was released in 2006.

The band had been disappointed with the response to their previous record, saying:

We have all these theories as to what happened, but basically it comes down to the fact that we don’t have the momentum that we had at the height of Ocean Avenue. I think some people in the band felt the need to rebel from where we were and the kind of acts we were grouped with. A lot of people in our band thought we had a lot more to offer. And that’s how we’ve ended up where we are

I think that the band went on … maybe not a tangent, but we had a goal in mind, and at the end of the recording process, we were so proud of how artistic we were, And I think we showed too much. I think maybe we were a little too jaded and a little too dark, and I think that the lack of hope and faith that we put on this record made us a little less sparkly and light to people

Ryan Sinn kicked out of Angels & Airwaves

Bassist Ryan Sinn, also formerly of The Distillers, has been kicked out of Tom Delonge’s Angels & Airwaves project. Sinn explained the situation in a message to Army of Angels, the band’s official fan club:

I received a phone call the evening of April 19th that concluded my relationship with Angels & Airwaves. I could go into an entire novel about my opinions of the whole matter and why I was given the axe, but to me, throwing dirt just seems desperate and tabloid-ial.

All I’ll say as to why I was kicked out, the reasons I was given weren’t at all honest, and severely hypocritical to the point of abhorrent disgust. I’ve gotten wind of a few of the rumors floating around the virtual life source, and I’ll say that I would never leave a band because of a clash of ideas, or control. To me a band is a clash of ideas and control.

Sinn, along with guitarist Dave Kennedy and drummer Atom Willard (the Offspring/Rocket From The Crypt) were recruited for the band in September 2005.

Set it Straight cancel summer tour

Set It Straight Set It Straight has announced that they’ve been forced to cancel their summer tour. The band noted in a MySpace bulletin:

We have to Cancel our summer tour. Nate Corbin (our drummer) broke his hip skating and we do not have enough time to pick up a fill in that would drop his/her summer for a month and a half. If there was a way to avoid this decision we would have made a different one. Set it Straight is still playing Rainfest and some NORTHWEST stuff at the end of the month and beginning of June and planning some west coast stuff this summer, but not much else. Sincerely sorry to anyone who had planned on seeing us, more news soon.

The band released Live Your Heart and Never Follow last year.

Co-written by founding members Brett Gurewitz and Greg Graffin, “Honest Goodbye” is inspired by the life and crimes of Perry Smith, the murderer made famous by Truman Capote’s classic novel “In Cold Blood.” “The song questions how a man with seemingly gentle and artistic sensibilities comes to commit brutally heinous crimes,” explains Gurewitz. “It’s an emotional song to me that delves into the humanity of forgiveness and retribution.”
