Grave For The Fireflies change name, announce EP and start new label

Grave For The Fireflies have announced some major changes. First, the band will officially be changing their name to Vultures United:

We’ve got some important, exciting and sad news for you all. It’s like having a new baby last minute, but it being born retarded BUT ULTIMATELY, it having special powers. Like it shits money or something legit like that.

Anyway, after almost 7 years of being Grave For The Fireflies, we’ve decided to call it quits on our band name and move on. No, the band is not ending, but we’re simply going through a name change, putting the name Grave For The Fireflies to rest. The new name of the band is VULTURES UNITED. Sorry if you’re one of the dozens and dozens of fans out there who’s actually disappointed by this change but hey, we have our reasons. You can always start your own damn band and name it Korn, or something longer and spookier than Grave For The Fireflies. Not like the world needs more band names that are dark, deep and scary sounding right?. Whatever.

Additionally, the band will head into the studio in July to record 5 songs for an EP; four songs on the cd version, five songs on a colored 7″ version (the 5th song will be a cover song). The EP will be released on the band’s newly started label, The Pirate Record Company in August or September. The band will debut the new moniker on May 17th at the Chain Reaction in Anaheim, California with Mikoto and Cancer Bats.

TSOL status changed to “hiatus”

Despite seemingly calling it quits in November of last year, veteran punk act T.S.O.L. has upgraded their status to “hiatus” from “done for good.” The band made this announcement:

T.S.O.L has not broken up, they are just on a long break and will probably tour again coming end of summer early fall. In the meantime Jack will be playing shows with some good friends of his. The band is called ” Jack Grisham and the West Coast Dukes” they will be playing some Joykiller T.S.O.L and Gentleman Jack songs

The band had fallen on difficult times in recent years due to a shooting that occurred while they were on stage in Hollywood in 2002. While T.S.O.L. was cleared in the court case they were left with a daunting bill from the attorney that prevented them from widespread touring. That period also resulted in the band’s last album Divided We Stand.

T.S.O.L.’s 1981 gothic punk debut Dance With Me was recently reissued by Nitro Records. A retrospective release titled Who’s Screwin’ Who? surfaced in 2005.

Jonathan “Jonny Z” Zanin of Tigershark (1981-2007)

Jonathan “Jonny Z” Zanin, drummer for the Richmond, VA band Tigershark, passed away in the early morning this past Monday.

Jonny was found under the Boulevard Bridge, and his bike above on the pedestrian walkway. Foul play has been ruled out by police, but the actual cause of death is still under investigation.

Aside from being an accomplished musician, Jonny also contributed a great deal of time to many social causes; including fundraising for Food Not Bombs.

Our deepest condolences go out to his friends and family.

Chris: On a personal note, I met Jon a few times, and am still in disbelief over this. A friend notified me today and it actually took a few minutes to settle in. Jon was the type of person that any city or scene needs; always smiling, giving of himself, and just an overall nice and positive guy. He will be missed by many.
