Bad Religion plans digital single for May 22nd

Their next full length might not hit stores till July 10, 2007, but Bad Religion has got a little something to tide you over until then. The band will be releasing a digital single of their track, “Honest Goodbye” on May 22nd. The song will be available through all major digital download services.

Co-written by founding members Brett Gurewitz and Greg Graffin, “Honest Goodbye” is inspired by the life and crimes of Perry Smith, the murderer made famous by Truman Capote’s classic novel “In Cold Blood.” “The song questions how a man with seemingly gentle and artistic sensibilities comes to commit brutally heinous crimes,” explains Gurewitz. “It’s an emotional song to me that delves into the humanity of forgiveness and retribution.”

The North Atlantic have posted a new track online, and in a recent blog, more demos are promised to be posted. Additionally, the group is requesting feedback from listeners:

We’ve been bad to you…and by bad, I don’t mean a real prick, but just a little…inattentive. So, we’ve decided that we’re gonna post new songs that we’ve been demo-ing and working on, for about a week at a time, and see what y’all think of them. The first one doesn’t have a name yet–I’m not promising anything, but send ideas.

You can check out the the untitled demo at the band’s MySpace page.

The group’s last release was 2006’s well-received Wires in the Walls.

Tomorrow the Gallows

Tomorrow The Gallows Band recommendations from other bands are often the best place to find new music. I was floated Tomorrow the Gallows via the guys in Smoke or Fire (in a roundabout way) and I was pretty roundly impressed with the track I heard on their MySpace page. The acoustic duo succumbed to my desire to stream their self-titled debut here at the Org, just for all you folks.

Stream their self-titled record at their band profile.

Always remember to check out our Music Streams page for streaming media from a metric butt-load of bands.

Ian MacKaye helping with Kent State shooting investigation

Looks like Ian MacKaye has another job title to add to his already busy CV. The former Minor Threat and Fugazi vocalist was tapped by investigators to assist in an investigation of the Kent State shootings of 1970.

On May 4th, 1970, national guardsmen opened fire on a group of student professors, killing four students and leaving nine others wounded, one of whom suffered permanent paralysis. The students were protesting Richard Nixon’s invasion of Cambodia. Many young people, including college students and teachers, were concerned about being drafted to fight in a war that they strongly opposed.

According to the Ohio.com/Akron Beacon Journal, Ian was involved in enhancing an audio recording of the original event that aimed to shed some light on why the tragedy occurs and who was responsible for processing a 37 year old recording for investigators.

Presented with the new enhanced recording, wounded former student Joseph Lewis said the voice on the recording sounded to him like an order to fire.

This has huge significance for me, because it corroborates that this event was a conspiracy to stop dissent in America.’
