Initial lineup announced for Sound and Fury Fest 2007

The initial twenty bands scheduled for this year’s Sound and Fury Festival have been announced. So far, the bill includes 108, Go it Alone, Blacklisted, Shook Ones, and Sinking Ships, among many others. The rest of the line-up is to be posted later this month.

Tickets for the event, which will be held July 26th-29th (including the 26th warm up show) at Alpine Ventura in Ventura, California, are available here.

Blacklisted’s positive response from the festival last year caused the band to reconsider their plans to break-up.

Washington City Paper details battle over all-ages ban in D.C.

The Washington City Paper has posted a detailed look at the many figures and organizations involved in the battle over a proposed ban that would exclude all those under drinking age from clubs in Washington D.C.

The article discusses DC Council Member Jim Graham, who famously hosted an roundtable which saw noted DC music icon Ian MacKaye deliver a passionate defense of all ages club. Graham, a former alcoholic, is described as:

[rushing] to the cameras immediately following a problem or an incident at an establishment, before the facts are even known, and announces to the community: ‘I want this place shut down.’

It also talks to Dante Ferrando, owner of the famous Black Cat club who notes:

Music should be accessible to people of all ages. The reality of the live music business is that alcohol, to some degree, subsidizes the music.

Jean Homza, of the also notable 9:30 club, added:

There will never be another small entrepreneur that comes in and says I want to do an all-ages venue.”

Club owners have pooled their resources and hired a full-time lobbyist in the hopes of fighting a regulatory apparatus that they feel has become increasingly adept at punishing club owners.

The Legion of Doom (Trevor Keith of Face to Face) release mash-up album

After literally years of legal wrangling, the music production/remix team The Legion of Doom have officially released their popular online remix album, Incorporated. Interestingly, one of the more controversial tracks – a mashup of Taking Back Sunday and Senses Fail – now leads off the record.

The duo, consisting of producer/engineer Chad Blinman and former Face to Face frontman Trever Keith, blends electronic sounds and beats within the “mashed-up” product of two tracks from popular punk, emo and hardcore acts. The style of production is similar to that from producer Danger Mouse’s breakthrough work, the Grey Album; the popular internet phenomenon that mixed the Beatle’s The White Album with Jay-Z’s the Black Album.

The album is limited to a pressing of 3,000 and comes in a unique wallet-style package featuring cover art from Derek Hess. The album is available only through Illegal Art web store, here. The album is also being streamed in its entirety at the project’s Last FM page.
